1500 gallon pond build and recommendations on heating it?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
excellent, ideas, the brother in law working with me is going to provide a sand filter that i am plumbing in... i have to say hopefully now but almost certain. i also was taking all advice in and thought that i would put a 2000 gallon submersible to a waterfall for another stage of filtration. so with any luck i will have the sand filter then the sub filter as well. plus airation as well. keep all posted

also today i spent about four hours grinding all the paint off the concrete floor. used up a whole 4 inch rugged bristle grinding wheel. tomorrow is the walls then materials and Sunday it will all go together! i really like the idea of radiant as well i will keep that in mind if the tank seems to be cold sometimes. i have radiant heat in the house above it and stupidly told them not to bother putting it in the basement floor when they were doing it all. :(

ok here is a few pics of the final stage in prep work i finished today! everything down to bare concrete and ready for Sunday. all materials are ordered and waiting for me at the store for tomorrow, now im getting excited. i threw in a before so

there will not be any windows at this time. i hope when i have the money to put 3 foot acrilic windows on the top and have a huge tank then. as for the outline, i was a little dissapointed that the materials needed for all the forms were not as forgiving as i would have liked but it still will be huge. i made it a hair longer and a little wider to accomodate and still should be pushing 1500 gallons.

Looks frikking awesome! So simple, yet so nice! I jus want to say that ive had a pretty big pond myselfe, and i always missed the window, ALOT! I think you will regret not putting one in, over time.. Keep it up!

hey everyone got the forms all filled today and sitting, Thursday looks like the day to take all forms off and finish this thing up over the weekend. my huge adjustable air pump came today as well as the four pond lights and the three four inch air stones. only materials needed now will be the 1900 gph pump that should be here by the end of the week and the 100 lb sand filter to hook up. i will post pics after i take the forms off and start hooking things up! thanks for watching. oh and as for the windows, i had many an idea for them but the would have doubled the budget so far and i dont have the money for them in this build :) future ones they will be included.
