Alright,

1) What would be some nice common species for a substitute? Do they have to be Central Americans?
jack Dempsey female, convict, I guess would be some common species. Not too many CA species that are common and aren't centerpiece fish.

2) Could i do a rope/reed fish?
I don't have experience with these fish. I know bichirs work well, so probably?

3) Could i do Boesemani Rainbowfish as dithers?
don't see why not

4)Would a Jaguar cichlid work or no?
No, a jaguar would be a bad choice. too large and aggressive, likely kill stuff.

5) Would a Jardini Arowanna work?
same deal as jag

6) Would the fire eel be fine?
I don't have experience with them but have seen people keep them with large cichlids

7) Could i do some type of larger pleco?
Yes but keep bioload in mind, plecos are poop machines especially big ones. And your tank will already be full of lots of fish. I'd say cut back a bichir or on dithers if you want to add pleco

Sorry for all the questions
No worries good on you for asking

Alright, how can i tell a male from a female (Jack Dempsey)

For convicts i would probably only do 1, i dont want a bunch of babys.

For the ropefish, someone told me that the bichirs may eat them but will they be able to eat a full grown one? They get like 2-3ft long but usually only 1-1.5ft.

Okay, I always wanted a type of eel.

I will probably skip the pleco.

So jardinis and jaguars are too aggressive.

Could Congo Tetras work instead of boesemani?

What about some smaller South American Cichlids could those work? Could i do a single severum and/or blood parrot cichlid?

Congos could work instead of rainbows, yes.

Jacak Dempsey females have blue on gillplate. Pretty easy species to sex, google search would show you some examples.

I wouldn't recommend mixing the less aggressive SA cichlids with your texas or other CAs

Hmm okay,

Could i do

1 Female Jack dempsey
1 Texas
1 Salvini
1 Firemouth
6-8 Congo Tetras
2-3 Bichirs
1 Black Ghost Knife fish

What else could I add? Maybe an eel or ropefish? Or maybe a type of shark (Rainbow, black tail). or maybe could i do pictures catfish? For other cichlids could i do a Vieja? Or maybe a single convict? Or i could do an Oscar?

Mmmm from my knowledge pictus catfish need to be the smallest fish in the tank, they do better in schools of 6+ or just 1 of them. also oscar will be the bully odds are. idk tho man gl.

Okay thanks! Ill skip the pictus
Don't let me stop you I may be wrong. My lfs had a lady buy one and put it in her guppy, molly and platy breeder and lost every fish and the pictus grew by 2"+!!

Okay!

i think my texas can handle himself pretty well, he killed a jaguar cichlid that was the same size of him, he destroyed his entire tail.

As mentioned pictus prefer groups of 6 or more. If you want a single cat look at p. Ornatus. It's the bigger cousin to the pictus and does ok as a single.

If you want the Firemouths you should get a few sixish like the Pictus they like to be in groups.

So you could go with your two fish and add a p. Ornatus snd 6 Firemouths. Maybe some Congo tetras as dithers.
