2 Gallon nano tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A gal with a lot to say!

Oh, no. You're going to enslave her as a mod. Well, power to you. She does act like one.

Well Christmas is over and I feel like I've gained 20 pounds lol. So I ended up giving my bf the 2 gallon and told him he was very limited in what he could do with it and offered to upgrade it to a 5 or 10 gallon but he loved the 2 gallon! He had a blast setting it up then we started talking about what he could do with it! He really likes neon tetras but I said that prolly wasn't a good idea since they like to be in schools of 6 or more. So i got to thinking....neons are really bright colored fish, so i pulled up some pictures of saltwater fish and he really liked those! So I've been going about this the wrong way, he's a saltwater guy! We discussed setting up a 10 gallon nano reef, but we both agreed that we would rather wait till we have more time and space and do a large reef tank. We also are planning out a 75 gallon discus tank :D Well long story short, he's sticking with the 2 gallon for now cause he really doesn't have room for anything else, but I feel it accomplished my goal of getting him excited about fish. I don't think he'll ever be as geeked about fish as I am, but at least he gets in now. So all in all, mission accomplished!

That's cool! But what will he put in it? Shrimp?

He didn't really like the shrimp idea :/ Not totally sure what we're going to do with it yet. He seemed to like both the Endler's livebearer and the betta idea, so we'll see.

If he does a salt tank make sure its minimum of 20gal. The nano's get really hard and your really limited on fish. With a nano he can have some shrimp, clownfish, hermits, shrimp goby combo

I agree with the 10g idea. Plus, a 10g tank is actually cheaper than a normal 2.5g rectangular glass tank. It also opens up the aquascaping ideas, which he will enjoy.

I like the idea of dwarf puffers, I have one now. I have to warn you though, I have never seen them eat pellet/flake food. In fact, the two I have had in the past only ate small snails and guppy tails.

If you stick with the 2g, I say go with the endlers. If you go with a 10 though, (this is the most important part) you have more options, and you can take him FISH SHOPPING. I think we all know that visiting the store and grabbing an impulse buy is probably the most fun that anyone can have.

good luck, and good idea!
