  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the ones that are sucesful you have to under dtand that they go out to see to breed and that they would get eaten up if theyr to small

i had to politely tell the employees at on of my LFS that the firemouths they were selling were actually all Jewels... i was like um, you guys know u dont even have one FM in here right, cuz those 15 fish are jewels...

kinda dissapointing that they wouldnt know.

Reminds me of the guy at a LFS who told me jewels are SA, and I told him, "No they're African". He then smugly points at a mbuna tank and says "No, these are African cichlids...the jewels are obviously SA". I just said some pleasantries and left.

some dude once tried to tell me that jewels were SA. i was like "but they come from the nile or whatever", and he goes (obviously stumped:ROFL:), "and because they are from the river, they are like the amazon, so they are SA". i was like "oh, ok then", and left. i laughed too. a lot.

one time, i saw these guys who were asking the stupidist questions about fish i have ever heard. one was, " Are cichlids agressive". not kidding

Not really such a stupid question. Discus are cichlids!!!

That's just one of those things people take for granted after so many years in the hobby(try 1). I never asked what a cichlid was, but that was because I was reading books about them and if you ask a book something, then you need a better perscription on your glasses or mental help. Yeah people don't tend to think of discus as cichlids... At first you kinda think of it as a really really round and big tetra, but then you get beat over the head with a gravel vacuum and told otherwise.

oh yeah, I've also seen pacus in walmart (they had ich of course) that were advertised as only getting to 14" when I've seen them pushing four feet in public aquariums. I just put part of a sticky note I was buying over the 14", wrote in 3', and walked away.

Some of those fish stores are just ridiculous. They should make those employees take a quiz before they work there. At my lfs they just hire any body. I overheard one employee telling a customer that Cichlids will get along with goldfish.

It really depends on what you call "get along with". If he meant you wouldn't have to feed the cichlids for a while and you'd keep buying goldfish from us, then he probably considered it a win-win situation and everyone got along with eachother. Except for the goldfish, of course, which, depending on the kind of cichlid, were probably eaten very fast. Now "get along with" as in coexist peacefully for the rest of eternity, the guy had no clue what he was talking about. And they should make employees take tests, but a lot of employers would make the tests either too easy or put down the wrong answers as the right ones and screw everyone up. and then hire the dumb ones anyway just to make us mad.

Ok, rant's over. for now...
