2 Patio Pond Building and Growout Thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
KATALEKEEPER KATALEKEEPER , you will be happy about this update. We are setting up the second one later this week. What is going to go in it? TONS of plants, and either California, or Rainwater killis. As suggested in other threads, I am going to wait till summer or spring on a hot day to get them IF they are tank-raised. I am also going to wait a little bit to add more Corys to the barb pond. Also, I found the other Cory. He is under the flowerpot. He is currently doing fine. My mom, being the devil she is, determined he would be fine. I am rehousing him to pet smart.
sick dude! Im excited for you!

Finally got the barbs to eat. Cory Catfish is rehomed. Getting the Other set up in April or in a little but, unless I find native fish in a pond. The barbs ate sinking Cichlid pellets, and I pushed flakes underwater, and they munched on them.

Hello. First water change today. I was a little backed up, so the water change was stretched to quite a bit of time. No need to worry, because the water change went up to a few inches over the barbs fins. The plants are spreading like wildfire, and the barbs are eating every day. I don’t know when the second one is going up. Are there any cold water shrimp I can add? I like the look of leaf litter, would that affect my ph, and water chemistry? Also, it looks like I’m going to be a fish daddy!

So, I planted the Variegated Water Snowflake in the back. I added some rocks; 2 black lava and one found in my yard. The Anacharis is growing like weeds, but pushed some under the gravel to encourage more growth throughout the pond. Speaking of gravel, I added another layer of Pea Pebbles, so the pebble layer is about 2.5 inches. During yesterday’s water change, I removed almost 3 fistfuls of String Algae. To solve this, I am getting a small school of American Flagfish - 6 of them -. Picking the, up in a few hours.
The 2nd one is going to get set up soon.

Lastly, I just want to acknowledge this. The American Flagfish is endemic to Florida. I can’t think of any fish besides catfish and minnows native to Florida! Also, this fish is a pupfish. A pupfish...in Florida. Yes. It is endemic to Florida and a pupfish! This is possibly the best fish ever to come over my sites. Perfect! Thanks to KATALEKEEPER KATALEKEEPER for suggesting it!

Sorry for the glare of the pictures. What can you do ?‍♂️

Edit: this last one is during the water change. I planted the Varegiated Water Snowflake, and it was planted in dirt and gravel mix, so the dirt got all over.
