I would get a contractor to take a look at the place you plan on putting the tank. All building's are not built a like and condos tend to be cheaply built. I know a little about the building trade, and despite the info you have received here i wouldn't feel comfortable giving you any advice unless i could see the said location.

That is why they have building codes. The only way that I would not put a big tank on any floor, is if the floor bounces while you walk. As a Carpenter my self I would never let a contractor in my place, because I know they would just start making stuff up for a chance to make some money; just like a lot of mechanics.

especially with the recession right now.

Well the person or persons that live under him may not like 2500 pounds falling on them while they sleep neither would their faimly if death was involved.

check out this article about wood floors and aquarium weights:

http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/aquarium_weight.php

I would contract a structural engineer. Someone else did that on the board and they got a report done stating it was safe to do so. and that tanks was only 180 gallons..

be careful. 265 gallons (or almost 3000 pounds full of water rocks, tank weight etc) is an enormous amount of weight in a relatively small area...

most floors were not designed to hold that kind of weight long term in a small area of the room...

Damn 12 volt man, you just posted on a thread of mine in another forum and now you're here! lol

BTW great deal on the 265G!
