Sorry, I should be more specific, I meant what he size steel to make that stand. Looks pretty clean. I rather make a steel than wood.

Looks like your quite a good craftsman, well done! Pretty nice sump design also.
Don't know so much about being a craftsman. But thanx, appreciate it.

he made everything himself, he even made the glass
Yea I did.
Okay maybe not the glass, epoxy, plywood, screws uhm.... or the stand for that matter. :D

I didnt' see it mention and apologize beforehand if it was, Did you make that stand yourself?
No, I had it built to spec. I've never welded a thing in my life, so I hired someone to do it for me. He definitely did a better job of it than I would have.
All load bearing beams of the stand are made from 50mm x 38mm (2" x 1.5") mild steel tubing. The weight distributors or "joists" are 38mm x 38mm (1.5" x 1.5") mild steel tubing.

You're wrong, he had someone else make the stand. :grinno:

It's like McDonalds! I'm loving it!
I had to basically free it from its sandpit prison. I used a mini broom to brush of the hardened sand from it. It was great seeing it "appear" slowly from out of the pile of sand it looked like.
Okay, it's not the quickest way to build a background. It took 10 days to get to this point.
So, what do yal think?
Oh, and yes. There is space to fit a decent sized power head at the back of it.

yup.
I had my doubts as well. But I carried it from the patio to the lawn and back no prob. It doesn't even show any signs of stress fractures. Seems like the double layer of fiberglass on the back of it is actually giving enough support to the "structure". I recon it weighs about 20 pounds (+-9kg) and is about 3' across and 2.5' high.

Hey I am building a tank like almost exactly like yours because you had a pretty good design. When you fill fill it with water for the first time DON'T PUT IT INSIDE YOUR HOUSE. It might burst!. It most likely won't but with homemade tanks you never know. I was just wondering what you used to coat it with. I need to know all the layers please. Thanks in advance. You have the best design i have ever seen and it looks the coolest.
