330 gallon setup and sump build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would glue the strainer or the syand pipes just press fit. Dont press the strainer down to hard or it will be a pain ro get off when you need to clean it.

I use novus 1 and there wipes for the out side amd a soft foam sponge for the inside. STAY AWAY FROM THE SAND CLEAN THE BOTTOM OF THE ACRYLIC WITH YOUR FINGER TIPS lol

Shouldn't have to glue strainer in e drain. They make sponges especially for acrylic when wet. When dry soft clean cloth and water or vinegar, try microfiber cloths.

Thats what I figured but wanted to ask the pros here. And Ill take a look at the Novus stuff

I only have a little bit left to glue today on the siphon drain to get through. Didnt realize how long the glueing process takes. But both will just be press fit. Ill go look up the Novus 1 stuff to read up on it. And I cant even really reach the bottom of the tank without getting in it so no worries there haha

I think they look even cooler when its all hooked up in the back. Ill snap a picture when I am finished gleuing it all up for you. Im glad I went with them.

Heres a question for you. How did you know when to adjust your gate valve and how much to open or close? Just enough so that you stop the trickle down the edrain?

What size e drains again ?

I started off with the gate closed then gradually opened it until the e drains werent taking on water. Mark the water level in the sump that allows for back flow when you shut the system off. Make two marks - the off level and the running level with masking tape. It will take tinkering for the 1st couple of weeks.

As you lose water to evaporation the level in the sump and over flows will drop (display tanks level will stay the same). The lower the level in the overflows the louder the water will be when falling in from the tank. If you adjust the gat (close it) the level in the overflow will rise and fo back to being totally silent but imo thats just a p.i.t.a to constantly tinker.

Now when you refill during wc or top off because of evap you use the tape marks that way the pressure on the gate will be the same no need to tweak it.

Im happy i went with the 2 inch e drains that way if i refill a little too much and they are taking on some water i dont worry about adjusting the gate valve the system corrects itself over night amd the larger e drains can handle the flow if something gets clogged

I havent touched my gate in months

Dont know if you remember but i had/have the water level difference between both overflows. No tinkering with the gate or adjusting the stand pipe height corrected it. My theory is the weirs on one overflow maybe slightly lower taking on more water but who knows.

I just tweaked the gate enough to allow the faster overflows e drain to take on a little bit of water to quiet down the slower overflows noise level because its maybe 1/2 ro 3/4 lower which makes it a little louder

Yea I remember when you had that issue. I think I will be ok since the strainer is sitting directly in the bulkhead instead of in a pipe like yours.

But i have 1.5" siphon drains and 2" edrains. And that all makes sense, Ill start with the system closed up and then open the gate until it stops. Ill have to see what water level I should start with in the sump. Probably start with a third then go from there to be safe.

But I am thinking about adding an auto top off system out of a jug for now so I dont have any water level issues in the sump to try and remain a constant so I can just worry about filling up the jug
