330 gallon setup and sump build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I used pvc and electrical boxes. You could easily build a pvc "stand" running the wires through the pvc to the boxes and lighting. Paint the pvc color of your choice when I built a stand version I painted it with a metal finish oil rubbed bronze. I didn't paint this one. This cost me around $30. I had the 3 high end par38s and got the other 3 for $15. Oh....apparently I've been slacking in my pic taking of my new build I'll have to snap a pic and post in a bit. Lol

So as you see I just attached to my canopy. You could do legs going down to hold it off the top of the tank. Depending on the lights you get you could do 1 per 2' section if you lift it high enough. Say 20"... I wish I still had pics of the one over my 60g cube I had. After painting it people thought it was metal it looked very steam punky. Lots of options for "feet" too I used a round piece with a center for a pipe and 4 screw holes around the parimiter. I tried a "t" secton and pipes but on my set up it was unstable. Hope some or any of this helps. And pics probably suck, sorry.

Thanks for the pics I appreciate it. I wish I had a canopy to hide everything. I would like it to be very minimalistic which thinking about it now I'm not sure I will get with flood lights or bulbs. I'm wondering if just having strip lighting is the way to go which will be closer to the tank and almost hidden? I'll have to think about what I really want this weekend and pull the trigger on Monday.

Got a bunch of stuff from amazon last night in the mail. So I decided to give Seachem Stability a try to cycle this tank. Claims it takes 7 days and you can start adding fish once you begin applying it. Guess I will test and see if this stuff works or not.

Also bought a cheap $20 pump to attach to the end of my python water changer so I can drop the water faster for a water change. I think it was 880gph?

And I picked up the SmartAqua auto top off that I will be hooking up to a plastic jerry can since its the only thing that will fit under my tank with the space left from the sump. Thanks for the advice on that DN328 DN328

Only thing left to test is the return hoses. I didnt test them yesterday since I didnt want to fill the sump and then drain it in order to move the tank back to the wall. I am a little nervous about the hose connection on the 90 degree barb going in to the bulkhead since the hose just slips right over pretty easy. I did tighten a stainless steel clamp over it pretty tight in hopes there are no leaks on that but I guess we will see. Would not be happy if that leaked

My returns are hooked up the same way, with tubing and clamps. They've been going for at least six months strong that way.

As long as there was some "tension" before the clamp you will be fine. If the hose is the next "size" up you may have issues.

So you both are right. I had 1" hose from Amazon that fit on the regular barbs but not the 90s. Shot water everywhere from the 90 even with the clamp. Called my lfs in a panic and got better hose from them and worked like a dream. Finally putting some water in the tank now! Just about 2" in.

That's what she said... sorry I had too

So I am trying to clean up a little bit and organize. I filled the tank up a 3rd of the way so I can start adding sand on Sunday. Will need to go get some stones as well. I tried to clean up a little under the tank with the sump. I off centered it just a hair to squeeze in a 10 gallon I had laying around and will use that for a quarantine tank. On the right is the plastic Jerry can I got to use as a resivoir for the auto top off on the sump. Chugging alongIMG_3107.JPG
