330 gallon setup and sump build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know ATO are more important for marine tanks, but I found adding one for freshwater helps at well. I have a 5 gallon jug/container that fits right next to my sump, and adds water to the return pump chamber. The benefit is that it keeps the water level essentially constant. I end up having to fill up the 5 gallon container every ~11days. I don't need to adjust my DC pump to keep the same level of flow. I have the SmartAqua, and considering the $$$ and time we spend in this hobby, I thought $150 was worth it in the long run. Just wanted to share for others. Of course, this is all moot if I had drip...but that's a different thread ;-).

Food for thought...if you plan on using PVC for plumbing, you'll also want to factor that in for head pressure (can't remember if anyone or I had mentioned). I have Herbie overflow on my 300 (including sump volume), but I only have (3) 1" pipes, including dry edrain. I don't have an over populated tank either though.

What you plan to keep aside, I think you will be more than fine with 1.5" drains, ball/gate valves and all.

I have looked at those auto top off resiovoirs and contemplated hooking one up. It's not a bad idea if I don't have a line run to it for now. Could you snap a picture so I could see yours?

Also on the returns I'm thinking about using hoses so I don't have to worry about the loss of pressures with 90degree elbows besides the one going into the back of the tank. And I think the 1.5" drains and gate should be fine but obviously we will have to wait and see if we are all correct!

I will upload some snapshots in a bit of how I have it set-up. There are many options from different manufacturers. What I liked about the SmartAqua was the ease of use, didn't take up too much space, and most importantly reliability based on my research.

Big problem here. Both came in a DCS-12000 box but only one says DCS-12000 on it. I cant even tell if its mislabeled or if they are both something else trying to be passed off for what i bought. Purchase them on amazon

Others using Jebao may be able to confirm, but I know that my Waveline 12000 vs. 10000II had different power supplies. I'm sure someone will chime in on this. Either way, it's amazon, so you are covered - but yeah pain the in a**.

Looking forward to seeing the pics of your setup.

Im ticked that I cant even tell if its mislabeled or not. Makes me question the other one. The box it came in has the barcode for DCS-12000 and same with the pump box itself. Looks exactly the same as the other pump besides the sticker. Sending it back to be safe but its just a pain in the A** for a first time buyer

Do they have same power supply? My controllers also had the model on them, but not sure if Jebao does that. I'd do the same as Im anal and OCD about that stuff LOL.

I boxed them back up and sent an email to the supplier on amazon. I didnt open the power supply box within the packaging. Maybe ill do that to take a look. Still wouldnt know what I am looking at anyway unfortunalty but if Im not paying for it since its Amazon its going straight back for a new one!

Geez atleast amazon will take care of it.

Dont worry too much about sch80 gates....im not sire there even are sch 40 valves. Either way your already restricting the flow with the gate so no big deal
