330 gallon setup and sump build

Many use Spears, but they can be relatively pricey. I cannot remember where I got my KBI. I want to say from my builder. Amazon also has Spears but only seen in schedule 80, but I know they also make 40 if that matters. There are other brands on Amazon...made in usa as well if you care and is around $23.

Yes 5 gallon, ATO pump sits inside with tube from pump to return pump chamber where the "Optical Eye" is attached no parts to get stuck.

I'll take a look tomorrow on Amazon for some gate valves and see what I can find. Don't want to go crazy obviously. Also what's the Optical Eye?

10 1/2 inches clearance. That's been plenty for me. Keep in mind, I set mine up so I wouldn't have to be under there very often. All I've ever done in 2 years now is change 4 filter socks every 2-4 weeks. One time, I drained and vacuumed the whole thing to get 20 Midas fry out of it, and I had plenty of head room under the stand to do that, too.

I have no plants growing under my stand, no chambers in my sump, no K1 and air pumps to change/aim/adust. I have a powerhead in the sump that keeps it all flowing, so there's nothing on the bottom of it to vacuum out--I don't clean it ever. So your needs may vary if you do more things in your sump than I do which most people do.

What's the height of your stand and sump? I can't remember if you had Chris build you a sump in your build. But I plan on doing the same as you. I have no interest in growing plants in it. Maybe a possible holding tank if some of the tank residents are not getting along but other than that it would be the same as yours. And a powerhead in there's a good idea to keep everything moving around

My stand and tank are both 30 inches tall because that's the most that will fit through my doorway. My sump is, I thought, 18 inches. But, measuring it today, it measured a little bit over 17.5 inches tall. It's 72 inches long.

A word on sumps. At first, I was gonna do exactly what you're thinking about doing--find a used glass 125 to use. But, my stand won't allow me to remove the sump without first removing the tank from the stand.

If the sump ever started leaking, I'd rather not have to get a couple tub, put 12 inch fish in them, drain a 540 gallon tank and move it, to replace the sump. that's just me. So, I paid too much for an acrylic sump--but I know it's very unlikely to leak.

I think that's what they called the sensor on the outside that you saw in the picture and is used in conjunction with the internal on the inside of the sump.

I would rather go acyrlic since it gives me better measurements as well as what you just stated. I dont ever want to have to worry about a tank leaking again thats why i went with acrylic for the tank. If i had extra cash on hand i would have had a sump built for me. I plan on doing that in the future for my next and final move in a few years unless i can find something used right now.

Question for you guys ragin_cajun ragin_cajun J jaws7777 DN328 DN328 .. I found a guy selling a whole aquarium system. has 20gallons, 55gal, and 110s. All acrylic tanks which are a big plus for me. Would like the sump to be about 100 gallons. I thought about doing the 110 but im not sure how tall it is until he gets back to me later tonight. If thats to tall could I get two 55s and do the same thing but just not have them connected to eachother if that makes sense?

I would think that you would want to have the sumps connected to avoid flooding and/or empty sumps.
