thanks for the input, but.
4 to 14" in two months? unlikely. an inch in 3 days? c'mon. and a rtc will outgrow the hybrid 8 times out of 10, and always outweigh him. and of course not a neighborhood pond. a heated, indoor pond at least 500 gallons.
sorry to rip on yah man.

belive it or not, the hybrid will out grow the rtc.

In general the hybrid will outgrow you rtc....it's one of the reasons they were made really

very nice tank mate  i always get my fish as babyes and keep them in a 30-40g for a few months then move them onto their bigger tanks as a 2-3" rtc just doesnt look right in a 120g get what i mean :D

tbh RTxTSN hybrids grow much bigger than RTC as they where specifically bred to grow bigger for the food market thats why they where originally made

i no it sounded a lot 1" in 3 days but really its not impossible as each individual specimen grows at a different speed so it can average also it depends what hes feeding it like if their getting feeders often they will grow quicker

like i dont feed feeders all frozen or prepared and my RTxTSN growed to 18" is less than 6 months and thats just with frozen so if your feeding feeders they will grow even faster

but a bit of advice on the tank i wouldnt trust a undergravel as they just wont cut it on their own and i no their all babys but they still have very large bioloads and with your stocking i can imagine it will be a strain of the bioload so i would add 2 or even more mini internal power filters or try and rig up a small canister

in the long run yes. but i've grown out three sets of rtc and rtcxtsn that started at the same size and every time the rtc was twice the mass at the six month mark. maybe my experiences were unique then?

thanks for the compliment :) i love the tank.
i still don't think a rtc can grow an inch in three days though. my rtctsn has maybe grown an inch in the last week or so and i feed him hikari sinking carnivore at least three times a day and theres a constant stock of white clouds.
and also the stocking has changed from what it was originally going to be. on the 3rd page or so i mentioned the fish noob roomies wanted pretty :(
so the current stock is:
1 glofish(was 3)
3 3" balas
5 2-3" clown loaches
1 4" bgk
5 zebra danios
3 small parkonsoni rainbows
and 30-50tiny white clouds to distract the rtcxtsn from the more expensive fish that can fit in his mouth

here's some pics of the new light set up and what the tank looks like with them. there are 4 x 42 watt 5000k bulbs and 2 x 13 watt actinics, the 5ks are on there own switch and the blues on the other and theyre all on one power cord.
anyone know how many watts and/or amps 18 gauge wire can handle? it has 194 watts now and i would like to add another 240 or so for a total of 434 watts. it should be fine right? i mean the little space heaters with 18 gauge use like 1000 watts. any advice on this matter would be appreciated.

You should take the black trim off of the top and silicone the large piece of glass for the coffee table directly to the tank but have a small square opening in the top that is raised a few inchs above the water line. That way you could fill it up all the way and it would be viewable from the top aswell as side....kinda like those designer tabletop tanks

Even if the RTC is 2 inches when u buy it , it will out grow that 40 breeder in less then 10 weeks if properly cared for. Should grow an inch a week if not more.

there isn't a rtc in the tank. the plans changed. now there is a rtcxtsn that i am more than prepared to take care of, and i know that he will outgrow it very fast.
