Yeah I am not sure how well that will work. I'd worry and am worried that with out that drop down to start the water won't go into the pipes. You'll have to try it, but in my mind it doesn't work.
If I did lift the tank, I would go back to my original flat surface strainers. So water would travel into the overflow box, and naturally just flow through the straight pipe to the sump because that would be path of least resistance. At least that is how it plays out in my head, maybe someone with more experience would/will say otherwise. It would basically extend the tank to the sump as a big power head/internal sump.

I know I still need to finish the stand, but an update on the tank view from my couch. The Arowana is approaching 20". Also, some photos of my new sump setup. Finally quiet to where the only thing I hear in this tank is the air pump. My 40B growout with an AC is louder!

Any issues noted with the 1/2". The reason I'm asking is I'm considering a build that is 30" deep an all the calculations seem to put that height at 3/4". However there is significant different between the price of 1/2" and 3/4"
