~475 Plywood Build

I will amend that to lowest open reservoir. In tank overflows should work fine if using a canister filter or other type of sealed or pressured container.

I see what you are saying and have turned off my drip for the time being. Going to get a bulkhead and a diamond hole saw to put the overflow in the sump. The overflow box was fuller this morning, but not enough to drain out. This also is a solid backup should the power go and for some reason the sump was fuller than normal that day, it can exit the system all together. I greatly appreciate you catching this oversight.

Some shots of the tank this morning. Just using the room light and the 24/7 of the Finnex. The bichirs are holed up under the stump, rarely come out. As I was typing the Palmas Palmas came out just enough so I snuck a photo of her!

Build update: got my gate valve in and a hole saw for glass coming. Get the overflow in the sump so I can get the drip system online without overflowing the tank/sump. This has been a fun project for sure though. Also included, the 190 I picked up for the discus.

So, I took off the overflow, added in the 2" 90s and the gate valve to see how it goes. Pulled the majority of the media into the tank, and it's half full with the wavemaker breaking the surface. Tomorrow after the resealing of the overflow is cured fill it up and see if it is quieter. I must say, I am super anxious at the moment doing this.

Cool progress! Cant wait to see how it works out.
Your emergency drain sits higher then your syphon drain right?

The 90s are loose inside so I can rotate the drains up or down as needed. The E-drain will go higher than the other though. The only thing I goofed on was I didn't paint the 90s before, so the E-drain sorta sticks out a bit, but hopefully the functionality works.

So was talking to a colleague today, and he had the idea of raising my sump to be just about even with the back of the tank overall so the water basically just flows flat out to the sump with a small drop. This 1) Reduces the spare volume needed in the sump for power outage, and 2) should make it super quiet. The sump is behind the tank anyhow and not under the stand. Is there ANY drawbacks people could think of doing this setup? Redoing the plumbing would be relatively easy and I have the material to build the stand for it.

Thoughts/ideas?

Quiet as hell now. You can hear a slight hum from the pump is all. Still going to sleep on moving the sump so it's straight out then a small drop.
Yeah I am not sure how well that will work. I'd worry and am worried that with out that drop down to start the water won't go into the pipes. You'll have to try it, but in my mind it doesn't work.
