48 Foot Fishing Rod!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well that was a whole lot of nothing. as kids, there was a hole that i always wanted to fish, but there was too much brush. when you finally got a bait out to it, you were already in limbs. i tied a fly to a 20 foot piece of reed cane and reached out there and caught a 4 pound bass, then about a 5 pound catfish. it really sucked. a lot. i finally got out my bass rod, tied a fly to it, and using a piece of pvc, blew the fly across the pond and had fun.

Nice catch but thats not a fair comparrison as people use those poles for freshwater "smallish" fish not saltwater .

I have seen several use those poles in the area for catfish, cichlids, etc while they use rod/reel for bass .

Granted not 48 feet but long .

spot on
Pole fishing is a highly specialised version of float fishing. A pole is used instead of a rod. The idea of using a pole is based upon early fishing techniques. Many years ago when people fished with a long supple stick of wood or cane stem. Modern rod materials like Carbon fibre are now used to make long poles.
Poles provide a level of precision that a rod and reel just can't produce. They allow you to hone your rigs, presentation and skills down to a fine edge.

Pole fishing enables you to know exactly what is happening to your 'rig'. If a fish touches the line or takes the bait, then you will see the pole float move. Pole float rigs are very versatile. You can change the time it takes for the float to display movement, to the position it sits in the water. This level of precision is what separates pole fishing from float fishing.

And you can land quite large fish on it is not my thing but in commercial fisheries in Europe they have there place for catching large bags of fish it might seem very alien to the hard core lure angler but its quite the norm in Europe

I've heard of a similar technique used here in Maine. Open water fishing starts April 1st, even though most lakes/ponds are still ice covered. You are not supposed to fish while standing on the ice after April 1st, so some folks rig up several sections of pvc pipe and fish from shore. They somehow use the pvc to get their baits out from the shore to deeper water. They do catch fish.

this is the worst redneck engineering ever. after a certain length, the longer the pole, the WEAKER it will be. at 48 feet, i'm guessing you get a lively bass and he could snap the pole

AWESOME!! LOL
