500 Gallon Peacock Bass Aquarium

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No more losses last night, I can't really tell any visible difference in their condition other than their heavy breathing seems to have subsided. Still, 2 more were not excited about eating this morning like the others, so hoping they are hungry by tonight.

Completing the stand bracing tonight, got the parts prepped just need to install. I'll be so happy that this is done, although it does mean back to polishing. :irked:

Ich thrives in light, you should have your aquarium lights off until the fish get better. I love the stand! your right the tank looks better a bit lower.

Thanks, yes it definitely looks better now.

Do you have a reference for the ich and light comment? I have never heard that before.

Nope, should be easy to google, ich treatment or something. I'lll take a look later on my break. Also Ich is primarily stress related. Makes sense in your situation, your fish just flew in, very stressful. Also a new tank possibly not cycled. All my new fish go into dark quarantine tanks with lots of hiding spots. I use fish water from an established tank and a bubble filter that has been running a while loaded with BB (beneficial bacteria). Sometimes with all this precaution the new fish still die! Over all I think it's a good system.

Yes, I tried to look but all I found was reference to certain medications breaking down in light which I have seen before with shutting off UV filters while performing certain treatments. I could definitely see the lights as a possible issue for stress, but the actual disease not sure.

I agree their situation has been stressful, they were in their current environment for over a week before any signs though, which I thought would have showed up much quicker.

I also agree that the tank was probably not cycled to their bio-load, and why I initially thought ammonia or nitrite spike. I am continuing to monitor parameters, dosing with stability to increase BB and dosing with prime occasionally in case there is a spike in between testings.

Finished the stand bracing, already felt like a tank so I can't really tell any difference...but I feel better about it now. The tank still rocks front to back a bit when pushed hard, so I'll have to figure out what to do about that. The stand is level, so I think the styrofoam on one side may have been crushed down a bit during the tank removal.

Tested the orino water tonight and found it is spiking again, and quite a bit from the zero readings yesterday, 0.25 ppm ammonia and ~0.75 ppm nitrite. Did a 50% water change and will probably do another tomorrow. Think I may need to test with another kit to verify future readings. Several fish still have spots, but I think it is starting to look a bit better.
