500 Gallon Peacock Bass Aquarium

If the stand is wobbleing dont use it. Have one fabricated. Honestly when I looked at the picture I couldnt belive you were using that. No offense. Just giving my opinon. I do fabrication for a living.

The stand does not wobble, just the tank, and I suspect it is just the Styrofoam on one side being crushed more than the other during the tank removal. I intend to verify this soon.

What makes you think the stand should not be used otherwise? I can't say I do fabrication for a living, but in my job we have used these same materials to hold thousand gallon water tanks with no problem. I also did the engineering calculations on it. I would appreciate your input for how I can improve it. The previous design was utilized for over a year with no problems.

I just wouldnt use bolt together angle to hold my tank. personally I would use solid angle that was welded. In my field I always say to myself " why risk it". Just my 2 cents.

I agree that it could definitely be stronger by welding. They are strut channel, u shaped, not just 90 angle like I have seen on here before, with 1/2" bolts. From the design calculation is can theoretically hold over 10,000 lbs. If anything, the new stand is stronger and more braced that the previous.

I appreciate your input though! I will keep fabrication in the back of my head for the future.

The stand is over built as it is, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Thanks, I agree. Planning to figure out the tank issue this weekend. In the front of the tank I can move the styrofoam up and down just a few millimeters, but in the back it is tight. This may be inconsistent with the crushing like I had thought, so I'll be spending some time with a level.

For the orinos, one more death last night. This particular fish was not coming up during feedings for the past few days and looking sick, so it was kind of expected. The remaining 10 however look great. I didn't observe any signs of ich this morning and everyone ate like a pig.

I tested the water parameters again yesterday, one day after the WC, and the parameters are only slightly better that before, almost unnoticeable. Nitrites are still around 0.5 ppm according to the test. However, I looked at the date on the test kit and it is approaching its 3 year life, so I've ordered another test kit as the results lately have seemed erratic.

THe test kit is probably giving you bad results. I remember jcardona1 doing a thread on old test kits....and they give shabby results when old.

GOod to hear the ich is going away. Keep doing what your doing.

Picking up the new kit tomorrow. They really ate like pigs tonight and their bellies are shining. I put in a few pellets with the bloodworms and several hit them. Unfortunately they spit them out. Maybe they'll eat them off the sand tonight... I'll keep trying with a few every feeding hoping they will start taking them.

I'll also post some updated pictures tomorrow, they are already looking bigger after only a week!
