500 Gallon Peacock Bass Aquarium

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i think the tank shape makes this tank look small for a 500g

Maybe I should take a picture with a person in it, I can assure you it does not look small. In fact, I would argue it looks larger than other 500g due to the height of the tank. Not saying its the best footprint, but it is what it is.

Couple quickly edited pictures. Really liking the second one.

A lot of change in just one week, starting to see some spangling on the dorsal fin.

Thanks, they ate 4 times today. These pictures were right before another feeding. They are taking the crushed pellets like you mentioned, so I've been putting in 5-10 crushed NLS pellets with their bloodworms each feeding.

Got the new test kit and tested the water parameters. The older test was off somewhat, but not significantly it seems. Ammonia was 0~0.25 ppm, nitrite 0.25~0.5 ppm, and nitrate was 40~80 ppm. Did a large water change, probably 80% with a double dose of prime. Testing again tomorrow, but probably another change to bring the nitrates down farther. Still dosing Stability, but haven't gotten the metabolites to zero yet, but definitely a lot of nitrate production. Lots of water changes for now!

Fun times after writing the last post.

Wife made a comment about the FX5 being a little noisy after the WC today. So I went to do a power cycle and try to work some air out. When I went to plug it back in, it didn't start. Had to drain it, take it apart, clean the impeller, put it back together, fill up another 5 gallons and start it up again. Not what I wanted to do tonight, but at least it was only down for about 30 minutes tops, and I remove some debris from the filter when draining. Paranoid it will not start back up after the 24 hour shutdown when I am not around to notice it immediately. This was the first time I have done this maintenance though, after about a year of running.

Your fx5 should be fine. Is it running still? Ive had mine over 3 years and no problems.

Yes, its running fine. Worst case scenario I will switch out the motor from one of the FX5's standing by for the 500 gallon if it goes down again. Planning to add cleaning impellers to the start-up maintenance list.
