530g Tank Setup and Plumbing Help :)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
One thing to note that you need to do today is get the union ball valve nut/socket end solvent welded to male socket adapter on the output of the pump. Since you did thread sealant before that you need to weld it while still somewhat wet. After it dries messing with turning it back and forth will likely cause a pinhole leak.

Thanks for the advice, I took care of it.

JK47 JK47 do you end up welding your intake strainers to the bulkheads? I’ll be welding my standpipes, but considering my intakes are low profile and through the bottom of the tank, I was thinking of just inserting them and not welding them.

No I don’t, haven’t really seen any reason to. You’re good

JK47 JK47 when you put padding under your reeflo do you screw it down? My padding/floor isn’t perfectly level so I used some shims to make sure the pads are fitted snuggly. This is only a problem in the front.

If this isn’t a problem I’ll break off the excess and potentially put under the black foam.

I rarely mount down padding for my own tanks. If screwed to a board it often adds vibration noise. Should be good as is

Next update. I have welded pretty much everything in the picture except the 1/2in drains. I just cut these. You can see the come from both sides of the tank and then lead towards a hole in the wall as these are for my drip system. I’ve added some unions but undecided if I will add a union right before going through the wall.

Thoughts? JK47 JK47 no idea how you go from one build to the next. My body is hurting from all the climbing in and out of the tank.

Another day done and still behind. I was trying to connect the ultima and some of those small measurements were off and I’ve had to make adjustments.

No way I’m getting this up and running this week. My floors are getting done over the weekend which means I have to stop tomorrow night until Monday. Plan is to finishing plumbing to the ultima (no backwash) tomorrow and weld all of the 1/2in lines. Hopefully I can finish the drain and clean the tank so that I can begin filling the tank Monday morning.

JK47 JK47 yet another question for you. I cut some pvc short when I was joining unions, valves, etc and found that when I go to weld the pvc goes into the joints/unions deeper. In some cases instead of having 1.5in into a union I can only have 1in. Is his going to blow everything up?

Yeah it’s hard doing builds huh? Looks easy from afar but hands on, designing, executing and changing plans in flight is rough. Be glad you don’t have some rich dude over your shoulder changing their mind every two feet..

Seriously though man you’re doing great. Nailing it, actually. Yeah 1” is fine. Just make sure you are giving it a good twist before the glue sets.

Yup. Sticking to the 1/4 turn for everything and making sure I use a good amount of cement. The other weird thing that happened was that my 1/2in bulkheads didn’t have notch to stop the pipe going through. I pushed expecting it and literally had a foot of pipe go through. Had to wipe off all the cement and reapply measuring to only 1/2in. Glad this is for the drip only otherwise I’d be worried.

Btw, I never appreciated how much pros charge for this installation. Now that I see how much material costs and the hours of labor, I can understand.
