that is a small bichir... i got mine at about 6". i've seen a few between 2.5-3" and they look fragile
but a good choice

good buy, feed them well. a black ghost knife fish would be fine as well if you're still thinking about it, both the BGK and the bichirs are nocturnal so they are both active in low light, that might suit your tank setup.
I went ahead and bought frozen foods for them. Blood worms n mysis shrimp... so i planned on mixing them together; it will be a protein of 8%. Any suggestions or tips on how to feed? never had bichirs or fed with frozen food b4. BGK would be cool i gotta do some more research on them b4 i make my mind up
I used to feed my Sen chopped market shrimp or chopped tilapia, perch, etc. Whatever was on special at the seafood counter at the local grocery store was on his menu. Stuff a few pellets i the meat and he'll get all the nutrition he needs.
In my 55g I went for a planted african biotope, I have a sen poly, an african brown knife, and a synodontis eupterus, and provided with lots of caves, nooks and crannys, they are perfectly fine together.

thts a good idea. when i run out of frozen im def gona try tht. so i take it they r not real picky eaters as long as its something fresh?

those "leaf fish" you are talking about from pet smart are misslabled their lepard bush fish.
I've found tht most things in chainstores (fish @ least) are mislabed in some way. my sens were lables as dinosaur bicher, my buddy bought his as a dragon eel... another local pet store had peakock eels as zig-zag eels...
