and ya as for the oscar plus other fish in a 55g isn't a great idea. my bigger oscar now is still only 7 inch's .. and still in a 50g for a while. only him and a black convict. as for size wise it would be perfect .. lots of room even for 12", but their mess is the problem. the way they eat plus waste etc is brutal. a real mess and will ruin the lives of the other fish.

I will contribute also, how about a large shoal of exodon paradoxus (Bucktooth Tetra)
i am not sure how much u can cram in a 55 gallon but at least more then 10+. Very Active fish that swims nonstop and has some nice dental work.
