Also, when looking at a possible filter to add to the aqueon i found the Emperor 400 or the Aqua Clear 70 (maybe the 110). Both were highly praised and the best deals on petsolutions.com It looks like a great website and has load of stuff. Anyone ever dealt with them?

Get an Aquaclear 110 definately. Ive never dealt with that site, but you can find cheaper on ebay.

Looking for like a $45 filter not an $80 one. Unless u can get one for like $45 on ebay. The aquaclear ones Lola really nice tho

Save some money and buy the aquaclear, god you're hardheaded.... All the other HOBs are garbage compared to it

Lol, ok i will look into it. My b-day is coming up, maybe i should ask for it. The Emporer 400 has a 400gph flow rate and the Aquaclear 70 has a 300 gph, on Pet Solutions they are similarly priced. So i am not sure. They are about $45 on sale and the 110 is about $75. Its a pretty big jump

Petsolutions.com is a good website, Ive ordered from them many times.

For the tank you have an Emperor 400 is a good choice for a budget filter. You might look and see if they are also still offering the rebates on these. They did have a $10 back deal going on the 400's.

My concern would be media cost. Those cartridges may get pricey after a while. Unless you buy on-line or rig up something where you can just use bulk media and cut it to fit.

Are aqua clear's cheaper? I am looking for a low budget filter :) And would anyone be willing to sell me a used one on ebay????

Earthswater, i have owned emperor 400, and penguin 350 from marineland as well as a few canisters from them.

IMO they are pretty good filters but the AC are far superior. If you do go with an emperor 400 i would suggest you buy a bulk roll of polyfiber and cut some pieces to fit. On my penguin 350 i currently have 1 of the filter pads for the canister and 2 polyfiber pads behind it. The polyfiber catches smaller particles than the filters that come with the emperor/penguin series and is a must have IMO. These filters are not bad, but the canister design of the Aquaclear is far superior.

The Aquaclear is alot easier to clean as well and with the huge sponge that it brings you barely even have to clean it compared to the marinelands!

here a link on ebay to a new AC110 with free shipping for $63.
