The 300mm is an f/4 lens. I don't' have 6K for the f/2.8 version, lol. I know what I told you and Li about the 70-200 but in the end, short of buying the 200mm f/2 at 5K, there is no other AF-S lens in the 200mm range.

i agree, most everywhere i go i use my 17-55mm. the 70-200mm is only used when i need extreme closeups, for example i used it recently at two graduations.

unless youre gonna be doing nature shots of animals while youre on vacation, i think youll be using the 18-55mm more often. if youre going to the zoo on vacation, then the 55-200 will come in handy :)

if youll be taking shots of the family on vacation, the speedlight will be extremely valuable. almost every shot i take of people uses my speedlight.

and a note on the super wide-to zoom lenses. i had the 18-200mm VR and i didnt like it. its a great versatile all-in-one lens, but the image quality suffers from any lens that offers such a wide zoom range. youll get much much better image quality from an 18-55/55-200mm combo.

there's a reason serious photographers dont even use zoom lenses and stick only with prime lenses (50mm, 85mm, 105mm, 300mm, 600mm, etc etc)
very interesting i am extremely conflicted as far as what to do next, i really want the speedlight, but 130 for the 55-200 is an amazing deal!

jcardona1- thanks a bunch for all the great info you have posted.

devder1-I too recently bought the same camera kit that you have. I also bought the Nikon 55-200 VR lens at the same time. I like it a lot. Just took it to the zoo with us last weekend and got some really good close ups with it of the animals. Check out Adorama, they have the 55-200 VR lens refurbished for 129.95 and free shipping.
WOW thank you, i may just purchase that!

I hadn't used it in almost a year. I used to do a lot of concert photography, but got out of it when I moved and got a different job. It seemed silly to keep it when I hardly used it. It was a great lens.

I'm out of my league with all you nikon folks. You've guys got some great glass too.

If you like to take pictures of critters and bugs, then a must have is the 200 f4 micro. I use that lens as much as any other that I have. SUPER sharp!
