75 gallon Firemouth species only Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
alright, I'll leave em out of the FM I care for my two algea eaters (had em since babies ) little too much to take that risk, thank you for the input!!

curiosity and crafting fever got me so i made a cave, might be a little small, will get closer pictures in the morning, 3-4 inch zip ties and leftover plastic mesh (all sharp edges are cut off if there were any). you can see it in the back/centered of the aquarium.

alright doing a bit of research while planning the last things such as cycling, cleaning the sand, getting the plants and driftwood another thought came to mind, heard it was a good idea to change up what your cichlid eats for maximum potential, what kind of foods are out there besides bug bites (the main one I am going to be buying) is both cost-effective and nutritionally complete for cichlids?

my firemouths love compost worms or smaller earthworms. I found fish that eat worms regularly seem to grow quicker. they also like salad/popcorn shrimp as treats.

My kids flip over rocks in our yard. Whatever worms/ larvae they find become fish food. In winter I use bloodworms and frozen krill.
A good algae based pellet would also be a good addition.

looking at different kinds of pleco and while I love Bristlenose I also looked at Thomasi pleco, would it be good in a Firemouth Tank or would it be in danger and or cause a strain on the two 306 canister filters?

yeah still planning on 4 after they pair off once I get them and raise em a little, weekly water changes 25-30% open to suggestions/tips from you guys though, just saw that the Thomasi is the same as the bulldog pleco/rubber lip. thinking 1-2 bristles if it doesn't overwhelm the tank or 1 Thomasi.
