  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
While I think about it here's my jerk of a firemouth and his tank.
He was a jerk in the big tank, then a jerk to my bichirs, now he just flares up at me whenever I come near20191012_230158.jpg20191012_230234.jpg

question for you about coloration, do you find it more beneficial having darker substrate and Firemouths? having difficulty finding a darker sand color that would show the fish off but a decent price for the amount needed. also he looks great!

Thank you! A darker substrate can help, but as long as the firemouths comfortable it'll show off nice colors

gorgeous! what brand of sand, what size tank? Where did you find the sand and for what price? been reading possibly using blasting sand and thinking about using a thick pillow case as a screen in a utility sink and in a bucket for safety, temps look to be bottoming out unfortunately outside, weather wise.

The sand is sadly no longer available till the company can source a new place to extract it from. You may still be able to find a few bags here or there if you hunt for it. Its Caribsea Tahitian moon black sand. A close alternative is Imagitarium black sand from Petco. It's a bit darker as all the grains are black. Where as the Caribsea has some browns and shiny piece in it.
The tank size is a 6ft 125

This is Imagitarium sand in a tank.

Could always mix a small amount of neutral colored sand in with the darker black that is still available. My main tank I mixed some black gravel into a natural play sand and it turned out well

I ended up mixing in the sand from my 20gal, it had a mix of substrate in it, black pebble, river rock etc. It looks better now I think. The Imagitarium sand alone seems to me a bit too dark.

I'm actually in love with the imagitarium sand it would go well with the wall behind it being half yellow half black ((i inherited my father's man cave after he passed)). Thinking of adding in a bubbler disk in the middle but more towards the back along with some plants.

couple of pictures of designing still, substrate comes the 29th. small clay pots for plant locations and get one hunk of driftwood, i just don’t want it to be over crowded yet still have sight breaks.FB778626-84C2-4FEF-BA3C-779ED5E543B5.jpeg5454044F-61FE-4E9A-A12D-372423219B41.jpeg
