A few questions for you "monsterfishkeepers"

What is with all the hostility this morning??? Our hobby is suppose to be something we enjoy and a stress reliever not to cause more.

I do understand what the OP is saying and have seen all the things he is speaking of. But, in every forum, every community, there are going to be disagreements, arguements, and ppl just being rude. That is just the way it is....is it right, no. But it is what it is. I come here to get good information and have gotten a lot of enjoyment and entertainment from the posts!! Overall, we just need to be respectful of each other and do our best to help other who enjoy fishkeeping as we all do.

Hope everyone is having a great week...take care

Jeremy

Let me Enlighten you on the aspects of a forum, and what happens where we are right now.

A forum starts of with a system admin. Li, in this case.
Li then tells his friends about the site, and they join.
After a while the friends of li have mentioned the site to a few people.
A few people join and understand that Li's friends are mods and are better then them...but they try hard and maybe one day they can be a mod too...so they invite there friends.

Before you know it you have a pyramid.
At this point normally the original creater has gotten bored with the site and no longer actually uses it. His mods now fill the place, pimping there own work and slapping each other on the back.

All this point the people who joined originally make threads like, "I remember when this forum use to be good", and stop being useful and end up trolling the site worse then people who join the site just to troll it.

The people complaining, become the ones actually causing the problem.

This is where you realize that the net userbase is negative. Userful threads die off, the off topic forum becomes the most used. Then the site basically turns into a chat site.

At this time there becomes little importance, or brand recognition and the site implodes once two or three mods do something outrageous.

It's never going to be all smiles and rainbows when a large amount of people gather about something they are all passionate about. Personalities clash and everything. I think as long as threads do not erupt into finger-pointing and name-calling then there is nothing wrong with objectively discussing some of the communities downsides.

That is what I was trying to say but you did a better job of making it clear!!

I think having all the difference of opinions is great, it opens your mind to many different possiblities that you might not of thought of before.

Leave it to madding to always have a logical reply for threads like these. At present, I lack the control of my irritability to respond to threads like this with a positive response, so I'll just say x2 to what he said. :)

There does appear to be a double standard in many sections of the forum... where established members can say their tank is over-filtrated to make up for the over-stock... and everybody just nods and smiles, even though we never see the filtration or anything.

This is why I like the gar sub-forum - it may be a little cutthroat but at least we do not stop giving blunt, true advice and criticisms no matter your post count or impressive stock list.

Gar ftw!!! We can be brutal but we will be damnd if we ain't honost and gonna give best advice possible

I say its our differences that makes forum important. Whats the point of saying something and everytime everybody agrees with you without fail? I rather talk to a mirror.

FYI - over-filtrated can't make up for the over-stock :grinno: Only over-dedication can compensate for the over-stock!! ;)

IMO, the reason so many ppl get strange/unwanted advice from any pet store is the following : There's such a high unemployment rate, ppl are now having to take 'jobs' that they normally would never have thought of themselves doing. I get the feeling that some of the employees at these shops really don't have their heart in it, or they honestly haven't a clue to what they are selling to you. And some of US aren't in the job we really wanted either, or even still unemplyed. Either way, there's lots of 'unhappy campers' as they say, on all ends of the spectrum. And the reason why some ppl can't believe the posts about the huge indoor/outdoor DIY ponds..........some of us cannot fathum the reality of having the space or land, the money, the time, etc., that it takes to do those kinds of DIY projects. Sometimes it's just seems so 'unbelievable', because it's hard for us to imagine ppl doing this for their love of fish!:D

another weekend goes by and a bunch of whining threads pop up aaaaagain.

you'd probably accomplish more by talking to the people who are offending you instead of making a thread where people who aren't even involved become involved.

Nice post TRAC btw

ps, the gar section has a well earned reputation
