Gotta love when people use the "feeder" excuse to justify their own irresponsible fish keeping. But I guess if you knew the gar could be eaten and ya just didn't care then it's cool. I do the same with schools of tetras in my 450g. If ya knew it could be eaten and did care, but hoped it wouldn't. We'll then that is not very responsible.

That was pretty much my point. He seemed to know the risk he was taking, and didn't appear all that torn up about it. He wasn't saying "Why did this happen?!". Me bringing up the 'feeder' discussion was to put it in perspective. If he knew the Gar could become a feeder, then it really is no different than dropping a rosy red into a pirahna tank. Sometimes those feeders survive and can get along great for weeks or months.

In this case those 2 fish might have continued to get along for another year or more. Who knows. Something snapped and the TSN ate the Gar. I bet he won't risk another Gar in there now though, just because that is an expensive feeding habbit. :)

At any rate, you are the one that initially jumped on the thread with the condescending comment that contributed nothing to the discussion. I'm still betting you didn't even read the thread before you submitted your first snippet of wisdom.
^ Big time sig material.

Glad I could help. :grinno:

Well imma chime in with something I do in my tanks.

I purposefully put fish together that will live together until the time comes that one eats the other.

I kind of like to watch the dynamics of it all. Sometimes the prey fish actually ends up living past the hunters ability to eat it. At any rate since they live in the same tank it ends up being a good way to gut load the dinner the top fish is gonna have sooner or later.

^certainly didnt have u down for that hun.

everyones missing the point, it was just the fact he thought it was ammusing, like i said its happened to all of us at some point.
we READ the post, know he knew it would happen sooner or later, knew it was a risk, wasnt looking for sympathy, just the fact he thought it was a funny story.
if this was one of my snakes eating my pet dog then i would be fined, banned from keeping large snakes or snakes full stop and surely be frowned upon by a lot of u on here, maybe not if i said it was an accident but im sure u would all come at me with pitchforks if id set them up in a room on purpose.

we wernt having a go because it happened just the fact that it seemed to be amusing.

I can't really read into his mindset or feelings about it, but I know if I do something stupid that I know probably won't work, and it ends up not working, I'll laugh at myself for even trying it. That's kindof how I read it. I'd bet he was a bit unhappy when he first discovered it, but what else can he do about it but laugh at the situation? It's not like I'd expect someone to beat themselves up over it unless they went in to the situation expecting it to work out. He probably won't stick another small Gar in there with the TSN again either. Lesson learned.

I couldn't say for sure what was going through his head though, as I'm not him. If he acted remorseful then aclockworkorange's comment might actually apply:

I'm a bit tired of seeing these posts... of course your TSN or RTC is gonna eat your smaller fish! JUST A MATTER OF TIME!!!

Instead he said he knew it probably wouldn't work, but wanted to try anyway, and it apppeared to me as if he was laughing at his own mistake.

lol ur the first person to actually aknowledge what i say, thanku.
yep i can see your point, i just read the complete opposite but its getting the point across that those of us that disagreed was just for the laughing.
thanks for understanding :-)

same thing here. my 14" rtc tsn ate my 7" florida ........ i feel ya man!!

Finally you have seen the light! Nothing against the OP, i feel bad he lost a fish and i understand he doesn't take things too serious and brushed it off, it was just bad taste to portray it as a humourus story here on MFK. A lil humility and he'd be seen in a different light.

What's funny is how people tried to spin this off into a feeder debate.
