I feed my sons sen every other day, i dont mind them growing slow than normal rate, i learned my lesson on my first UJ when i feed everyday and over feed them. Ill see beer belly and bloating and i dont wanna do that again.
Hmmm... my intent isn't to power feed or overfeed, and I am not looking for huge growth. I just thought you are supposed to feed daily for young fish, so I thought I was just being a good fishkeeper. :)

If not I'll stop worrying about it and just go every other day. My current fish are all WC so I haven't been getting beer bellies.

My Polli will be pissed! LOL

How long have you had them? How long have they been at those lengths?

I got the Del in mid-Dec at 6", she is way girthier now and 9"
Got Moke in mid-Jan at 5.5-6 and only about 7+ now.
Got Polli 1.5 months ago at about 4", now just under 6". Piggy. :)

Not sure when the Del will slow down in length, maybe now?

Great thread :). I wasn't aware that cb teugelsi were prone to this. I'll have to keep a close eye on mine.

My old dels grew quickly to 10", then got fat, and slowly crawled up to the 12-13" mark over the next few years. The female was always the larger of the 2. They kept their activity levels and appetite though which kept the tank interesting once the ornate and lapradei turned into logs.

O

Ok, that seems to be about the track my Del is on. Was yours WC?

I've read that female polys get larger as a general rule. I find that interesting!

They were likely cb based on where I sourced them and the relatively low price. The larger female observation held true for my senegalus pair as well, so perhaps there is something to it, at least in these 2 species.

I find it hard with my crew since the Pollli is still a baby and not quite 6 inches. The Moke is 7+ and the Del is 9. I feed 2 days in a row (one pellets, then one fish, krill or earthworms) and then fast a day, then 2 days in a row, fast, etc.

Should I wait until the Polli is 8 inches to go to every other day for everyone? Right now she is really hungry all the time so I even feel bad skipping a day but she gorges herself so I think it's safer.

Opinions? I guess I could still do the 2 days in a row but feed a little less each feeding? She houses food and finds it faster than any other poly.

(Sorry to interrupt in your thread, but it's related! :) )
Id do every other day now. Carnivores go for long periods of time with out food in the wild. Dont see anything wrong with it either way just my preference i feel like they are healthier and more active when fed less. Last year we had a weird situation and i was only able to feed 2x per week and i feel like they were never as active as during this period. I wouldnt do this with herbivores that normally would graze constantly in the wild but i have a suspicion that every other day wouldnt impact their growth much

Not a nutrition expert by any means but was thinking could possibly feeding less allow for all the food to be more efficiently digested and possibly speed up metabolism hmm

Thanks! I'm happy we've discussed this here. I'll go every other day. That's how I've historically fed all of my fish, but with the 3-4 inch polys I've been feeding more.

So do you guys typically alternate (fish/krill/earthworms) and pellets every other day or do you do mostly fish and pellets 1 out of the 4 feedings, or....?
