Albino Trimaculatus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Fry are still alive. I've been dimming the tank lights and using a flashlight to examine the fry. I might be wrong...I was wrong once...LOL...but some of the eyes are reflecting back much lighter than the rest. I hope that's a good sign.
I'm glad you prefaced the lighter eyes..... Because I was thinking to myself about how Trimac already have Red eyes. And how that wouldn't be a telling factor in the fry. So lighter red makes sense!

I meant the actual pupil reflecting back a lighter color.

Cool beans! You got to pull them quickly before natural selection takes place

I’m ok with whatever happens. I generally leave the first couple batches of fry with the new parents. Helps the pair bonding good practice.

Still have fry in the tank...albeit a lot fewer. They're growing quick. A dozen or so are much smaller and appear to have different coloration. Still really difficult to tell. I'm going to let them wit the parents for now. As I said before, I generally let the parents have the first couple broods to themselves to strengthen the pair bond and give them some practice at being parents. If at some point I can pull the dozen that I see different...I will.

Yes. I pulled the fry from the tank with the parents because it looked like they were going to spawn again. (They did, BTW) I kept eyeballing the tank. Lots of fry....difficult to see them all at any one time. Some of them looked smaller and "lighter" than others...but really couldn't be sure. I spotted two that were definitely different. They are all around a quarter inch now. Here's how the majority look.MED_0522.jpg

Here's a shot of one of the others. I have the two fry in a 20 gallon tank and will try and keep them alive. In the meantime, I have another batch of fry coming up. Need to set up some separate grow out tanks.MED_0525.jpg

Nice project and I appreciate you sharing the ride.

Hopefully the easy button crowd doesn't discourage you from posting updates.

Dial it back, folks. it's all good. I will be just as surprised when and if I see them. I didn't immediately snap them up when offered. But as I said, this is the stuff that keeps the hobby interesting for me. I put some blind faith in a guy that I know who is very familiar with CA cichlids...and stated he pulled some albino out of a brood...so I bought them. At a minimum, I have another breeding pair of Trimac. One thing I can state for sure, after 47 years in the hobby and international recognition for my aquatic photography, I neither have to or feel compelled to prove ANYthing to ANYone.

Enjoy the hobby.
you my sir are a true gentle man
