Well the kid sent a text and said he doesnt wanna do the trade anymore. Just goes to show ya about the fishkeepers in my area. Not bashing the keepers in my area that are on here. The kid thinks he has 2 male festaes but even i new they were mayans and he doesnt wanna do the trade now

i looked it up and its pretty pricey stuff

I think I paid $12.99 for a sheet of eggcrate at the Home Depot. I guess you could say that's pricey for what it is, just a piece of plastic, but well worth the use I'm getting out of it.

Btw, I think your Festae would color up better over a light colored substrate. And my Festae looked just like yours when I got her, dull and washed out. Look at her now. :)

It's not for everyone but I like using pool filter sand. Literally dirt cheap at Home Depot. A 50lb bag is like $7 here. My Multispinosa tank has a mixture of pool filter sand and fine black cichlid sand. The cichlid sand was left over from my very brief African Cichlid adventure. It's not blinding white and the small black specks of sand help to break up the look of the substrate. I also like neutral tones as substrate. I'm not too hot on bright or flashy colors. Balton is right, the egg crate is worth the initial cost. You'll have a divider that you can use and remove as often as you need to. It can also help with breeding less than friendly pairs too.

ive only done sand once and that was in a 20 gallon. i wish i kept my natural colored gravel but i tossed it and gravel isnt cheap

yeah i use PFS and truthfully once i made the switch from gravel to sand i am never going to use gravel in any tank again, the sand looks so nice and natural and you just have to siphon the poo up off the top of it and all my fish love digging around in it

Hey, it's cheap at Home Depot! You'll be surprised at the aquarium bargains that you'd find at Home Depot. I've purchased several items from HD that cost dramatically less than comparable items at LFS. My large pond pump is from HD. I bought it over ten years ago without a single problem to date. And NO, I don't work for Home Depot:).

the PFS is a big enough grain that you shouldnt have to cover them, just have them raised a couple inches from the bottom and your golden, im sure they have it especially now that its summer time, sometimes they wont have it in the winter, but i would check it out at the store im not sure if thats comething they would post on their website but yeah its like $8 for a 50lb bag here and its not super fine the the play ground, sand box stuff, that stuff is super fine and will go into your filter you want the sand specifically for pool filters, and then just rinse it well and it barely even makes your water cloudy
