And why your fish at the LFS? It's your fish, how can it be out of your hand?

Yeah, everyone's already made their points by now so arguing any further is pointless.

You cannot turn any random fresh water fish into a salt water fish. You cannot turn a salt water fish into a fresh water fish. Each species of fish has a specific range of environmental variables that it can survive within. While a fish may be used to one set of extremes of those variables and you can accustom said fish to the other end of the extremes of said variables by adjusting its environment over time, you cannot acclimatize a fish to living in an environment whose level of saltiness -- and other chemicals, temperature, variables, etc... -- is outside of the range for which that particular species can survive.

Fresh water fish and salt water fish have evolved to survive in the salinity -- the level of saltiness -- of their native environments. Salt quantity isn't the only difference between salt and fresh water. There are many other variables, ranging from other chemicals to various organisms. These would have to be adjusted, too.

There are a handful of species that can go between fresh and salt water, but most of those require being in one or the other (or both) for some period of time throughout their life cycles.

http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6016770.html

This patent covers a process for acclimating saltwater fish to fresh or brackish water. It explicitly calls out that not all species are compatible with such a change in their environment. The subject of fresh to saltwater conversion or acclimatization is completely avoided. (Coincidentally, the patent has expired due to non-payment).

These articles and further research shows no evidence that anything but very specific species are capable of moving from freshwater to saltwater. Of those species, I could find none that move from freshwater to saltwater permanently and, certainly, no evidence of a acclimatization regimen that might enable a random freshwater fish to live permanently in a saltwater environment.

The red thing mostly has to go along with informing the younger ones of mfk. They look up to red, as i know i once did for everything. I got a little more knowledge and still follow mostly what they say. Most can see this is just stupid, but some can't. Also some people just come in here to instigate, and they should receive an infraction
The reason for such patent called out that not all species are compatible with such a change in their environment, because he doesn't have the resource to experiment on all species.... Just like a disclaim note to safe his "behind" from being sue by others.... That patent only made it to freepatentonline, instead of being an article in Science or Biology Research Journal... Go figure!

It's Photo Lounge, so any arguing would be pointless. I would just enjoy the pix, and give the OP credit for having a pair, not only for doing so, but also for posting pix :headbang2

Picture tells a thousand words....:D

I'm sure you already get your thousand words in this post. Now box it and ship it to me... I want to make sure that you didn't photoshop your pix, and there's only one way I can tell for sure is put it in with my p-bass :D My hat is off to you! You always amaze me with your action! :) I still can't figure out when how did you pay the bill the last time we had lunch together! :screwy:

I look forward to the day when fish are treated the same as other animals in the eyes of the law. There are exceptions, endangered species and classified ones but for the most part, people can do what they wish to a fish. That is why there are "Dyed" and "Painted" fish on the market. Fish don't have the same protections from abuse as other animals do such as cats and dogs.

I guess the OP is going to start to market his "Freshwater" Trigger fish. What's the asking price, $400??

Looks pretty legit to me, you got transparency in the fins matching the back of the tank and a reflection on the bottom of the tank. He mus be really good at Photoshop if its fake. Poor fish....

On the other hand, I have a dream that one day, freshwater fish and saltwater fish, predator fish and community fish, big fish and small fish, black fish and white fish, Gold fish and Platinum fish can live in the same aquarium! "Free at last! Free at last! God Almighty! Free at last!

IMO, my day will come before your day, because fish needs to make it through the "Fish market" into what it's called "Pet" before the day that you look forward could happen. If, and ony if, such day happens, there would be nothing called "feeder fish!" Or "Fish stick!"

So, all the debating boils down to the asking price?
