Angelfish Spawn!

thats awesome I have 2 angel fish now I was thinking they was a pair but they haven't ever laid eggs I was mainly thinking they was male and female cause for some reason unknown to me why the one I was thinking was male has a nob forming on its forhead and the other does not , they are the same age same size I will have to wait it out and see got them in a 100 gallon indoor pond now with slate rocks in it made some caves wiht it and its planted so we will see

the nob on the head means nothing either one could be male or female.. just happens to be a deformity or genetics or old injury.. ..and you cannot rule out 2 females or 2 males.. but when they are old enough and big enough to spawn you will know they are a pair..although two females will have eggs..so you will have to check out their breeding tubes when the time comes...

I got home from school today to see all the eggs GONE!










They have moved all the wigglers over to some of my fake floating plants. They moved them to the wierdest place. Now I'm worried that they will fall and the parents won't see them and my tetras will get them.....

At night how will the parents know if the wigglers dropped off the leaf??

For this reason i always put my breeding pair into their own tank.. it can be just a 15 gal size.. with a piece of slate.. then i either leave the eggs with parents or remove the parents ... but one thing that is very fortunate here .. you have a breeding pair of angels that is willing to raise their young.. that is so rare.... and then they even took the wigglers and moved them away from the fungused eggs.. this is indeed a great pair.. so even if it does not work out for this spawn.. you have a great future with them in spawns to come..you are so lucky

Thanks. I think that the male is eating some the the babys though. They go in, but don't come out.

I have a cycled 20 gal handy, how would I go about moving the babys and parents as the eggs are on plastic plants....Is that to risky, would the parents eat them?

It looks like the male is having a hard time letting go. I mean where the wigglers used to be vs. where they are now. He is still over there. He needs to find out his prioritys.
Mom is still doing a good job catching and spitting the wigglers back onto the leaf as they fall off.

i do not mean move them this time.. it is kind of too late to move them.. the best you can do is when you see them free swimming take a soft net and remove babies to 20gal. i think trying to move them now would stress everyone.. next time either have slate there or if they lay on a plant leaf ..just take that out {after he fertilizes the eggs and put it in the waiting 20gal

What will happen to the wigglers at night?? will they fall off and the parents won't see them?

if they just fell off {as they always do} with out any predators bothering them they would be fine.. but if they fall off and parents cannot defend them then they will be lost.. once they become free swimming parents do not do much .. you still have to feed etc .. because their little egg sacks will dissapear and be used up..

Ok. Thanks. It seems that there are not as many wigglers as when I got home today. When they are free swimming I plan of taking them out. If they make it that far, and if the tetras don't eat them first.

hmm there are a few eggs there that look like they have fungus on them. i hope you get some fry! guess you'd better have a tank on standby and just net them out as soon as they hatch.
