Another plywood build ( 400 gallon +)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I used actual maple trim boards instead of cutting strips off of the maple plywood. A
good amount more expensive doing it that way but the trim boards are more solid (overkill) The 90 gallon sump on my 300 with a wet/dry trickle tower.

Yea I thought about doing that too. Do you remember what size trim boards you used?

I saw you already drilled the tank what kind of overflow are you using?

Different sizes. “6” or 5.5” wide boards and used my table saw to trim them to the widths I needed. Just a pretty basic set up. It’s in my garage so keeping it simple and just doing a couple 1.5” drains with 90s running to my sump out the side of my tank as you can see and the returns will be on the other side creating a river like current flowing from one side to the other. Also with the plumbing on the side I can mess with it and reach it easier while having my tank flat against the wall. Just my thoughts.

How quiet do you think those drains will be or is that not a concern for you? Will they be completely submerged? I’m trying to decide filtration for my tank but it being quiet is a must for me

Def not the quietest but nothing crazy loud. Than I would suggest looking into like the beanimal or something like that. People seem to have those dialed in but not something I know much about besides the basics.

What's the dimensions and thickness you went with again? For future reference. I know I'll build another tank at some point.
It is 82” x 26.5” and 1/2” thick low iron. Hard to beat their prices. Regular 1/2” plate is like 125 bucks from them too.

Yeah that's good. For 82x30x.5 locally I was going to have to pay $400. Regular plate. That's why I found that donor aquarium for $200. It won't happen anytime soon, but I already have daydream plans on another addition to my house just for one or two larger tanks/extra storage/spare bedroom. But I can only handle one addition a year or two haha. Fortunately I live in the country so I don't have to ask permission to start building.

Haha right on man. Yea I hear ya after I’m done with this tank I’m gonna take a little break from my projects for a bit. Yea a local place here was like 350 for regular plate. Like I said their a pain to deal with but you can’t beat their prices and they did deliver.
