As del do u mean thr armoured bichir, barred bichir banded bicher with the latin name polypterus delhezi
We usually refer to bichirs by their scientific name, as it's more accurate than common names like armored bichir, marbled bichir, curvier bichir, etc...

When someone says they have a nile bichir, you have to think for a moment, or possibly even look up the scientific name to know what it is, but when they say they bought a pbb, then you know why they're using ramen as a size comparison.

A big part of entering the polypterus addiction is just memorizing scientific names. After that just a few other minor things, like the difference between uj and lj, compatibility, diet, tank size, etc... It's all pretty simple.

Yeah, right. I've been reading bichir threads for over a year and I still don't know what pbb actually stands for.
Then you're doing it wrong. A decent portion of the active poly member/addictsa have at least one Polypterus Bichir Bichir and talk about them on a semi regular basis.

i know what it looks like, I just didn't know it had a name other than pbb :)

One of the biggest reasons for the common names not carrying their weight in recent years is stores mis-labeling (weather on purpose for more profit, or on accident). Once you can match a name to a face, keeping and collecting gets much easier. I've gone into stores before and because of mis-labeling they'll have a $300 fish labeled and priced as a $50 fish. The more you can know about bichirs and identifying, the better of you'll be. I'd suggest just going through old threads with pics and names that identify them, you get to see differences from fish to fish and it's really enjoyable seeing just how different they can be.
