You dont know what your talking about do you?

Serval can actually be domesticated(as well as a cat can be, lol) They are very good cats. CB that is. Iv done quite a bit of research. Im not jumping into this. I know what i need to get, and what its gonna cost me. I know its most likly gonna bond to my wife or I and that is the person its gonna trust. It wont trust anyone else as much(i fear it will be my wife, but god i hope not) And frankly, they arnt a freakin cougar. They have, if i can remeber the quote, the best cat for a true cat lover.

Savannah are hybrids, and require a permit as well belive it or not. I dont want a hybrid. If im gonna need a permit im getting the real deal.

PS, you do realise i have a caiman right?
And that caiman is in a enclosure! You realize you have a litle kid rigth? Litle kids and some pets simply dont mix well. Your serval may be super affecionate, however its still an animal and needs to be treated with respect. Heck even some normal house cats and dogs bite litle kids, sometimes with severity! You cant allow your serval free access to all parts of your house untill your boy has full understanding of what he is dealing with and I would keep a very close eye on any interation between them untill your kid has like 10, and even then...watch out! Kids are like that, kids mess out. Its normal. Cb servals Ive seen in Spain are basicly big replicas of a afectionate but fiesty house cat. They like their space and to be able to interact with humans at their well pleasure. If you push to much I garantee your getting claws on you...except this ones have a much wider range then the ones of a normal cat.

Why are you assuming it will wander the house like a housecat with the kid unsupervised? I let kids meet and play with my fox but she has a room that kids and visitors aren't allowed in alone because I know she's nippy.
I think if he can put the work into that awesome caiman enclosure and puts in the 2 YEARS of experience he'll need to finally get one of these cats he'll have considered the safety issues involved and prepared the family.

Really, domesticated or not doesn't matter a lot in cats to me. Some "domestic" cats scare me and I'd never leave them alone with a child. Heck there have been a few I didn't want to be left alone with.. I trust the wild one more than these psychotic house cats, lol.

^yep.

im not gonna be able to get my permit for quite awhile, well after my son is older. Plus my permit says it has to be in a locked cage at all times. And im a very law abiding citizen ;)

I mean, we arnt talking a cougar here. Im talking basicly a big house cat. Yeah its bigger, But iv had 20lb plus cats. An average serval is just another 20 pounds max.

When im ready, im gonna be getting a CB serval, as young as possible for a reason. I have spent years researching what i need and what to expect. I dont jump into anything esp with a price tag of 3k or more.

They're not just a "Big house cat." You're minimizing. Cats, in general are true athletes. They're very agile, fast and have keen predatory senses. If you add another 20 lbs of muscle on a house cat, you have a force to be dealt with. I've seen bigger-than-normal house cats that are meaner than junk-yard dogs and more difficult to handle. A serval is not just a big house cat. It's a wild, stealth predator that has not been bred for the purpose of being a pet. If they were just the equivalent of a big house cat, the government would not be concerned and you would be able to get one without jumping through hoops. The government is making you jump through hoops because they want you to become discouraged and give up. Most people do give up, as you probably will, also.

I wont give up. And PA's gov makes it hard cause thats what they do. lol. I cant even own a hedgehog.

I have no fear when it comes to a serval. iv seen them and done my research. Fact it, while dangerous its nothing compared to my caiman.

I'm kinda entertained how people will post in an exotic pets forum that exotic animals shouldn't be kept as pets... anyone else find that odd?
If he does not agree with the keeping of that particular exotic then it's not so odd.

To make a long story short, we can't have hedgehogs for some pretty B.S. reasons. :irked:

This is from Hedgehog Central:
Pennsylvania
A very unfortunate political battle has developed within the State of Pennsylvania making hedgehogs illegal to the point where threats have been made against even the transport of hedgehogs through the state on the way to another state.
All of this is the result of an initial (and unusual) law established in the 1990's. Under that law, hedgehogs within the state were legal, but it was illegal to import fresh bloodlines into the state. A few breeders violated that law resulting in the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) declaring all out war on all hedgehogs within the state. Breeder's homes have been raided and their hedgehogs confiscated with all of the zeal of a major drug bust. Suffice it to say, owning a hedgehog in Pennsylvania under the draconian rule of PGC is extremely dangerous for both owner and hedgehog.

I found this out when I was looking into getting a hedgehog a few years ago but found this disappointing information instead. Luckily, I go to college in OH, so I may be able to get one still and have one of my many friends out there who also want one keep it over the summers while I'm home in PA. :grinno:

just do a savannah dont need a permit and way more domestic..
