^yep.

im not gonna be able to get my permit for quite awhile, well after my son is older. Plus my permit says it has to be in a locked cage at all times. And im a very law abiding citizen ;)

I mean, we arnt talking a cougar here. Im talking basicly a big house cat. Yeah its bigger, But iv had 20lb plus cats. An average serval is just another 20 pounds max.

When im ready, im gonna be getting a CB serval, as young as possible for a reason. I have spent years researching what i need and what to expect. I dont jump into anything esp with a price tag of 3k or more.

Did you see that movie lol.....random. I think you will be fine based on your experience with reptiles. Then again cats are mammals...and they get smarter everyday....except for people like me who get stupider every day :nilly:

To make a long story short, we can't have hedgehogs for some pretty B.S. reasons. :irked:

This is from Hedgehog Central:
Pennsylvania
A very unfortunate political battle has developed within the State of Pennsylvania making hedgehogs illegal to the point where threats have been made against even the transport of hedgehogs through the state on the way to another state.
All of this is the result of an initial (and unusual) law established in the 1990's. Under that law, hedgehogs within the state were legal, but it was illegal to import fresh bloodlines into the state. A few breeders violated that law resulting in the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) declaring all out war on all hedgehogs within the state. Breeder's homes have been raided and their hedgehogs confiscated with all of the zeal of a major drug bust. Suffice it to say, owning a hedgehog in Pennsylvania under the draconian rule of PGC is extremely dangerous for both owner and hedgehog.

I found this out when I was looking into getting a hedgehog a few years ago but found this disappointing information instead. Luckily, I go to college in OH, so I may be able to get one still and have one of my many friends out there who also want one keep it over the summers while I'm home in PA. :grinno:
The guys from the game commission dont have much to do in their lifes, dont they:screwy: Why wille their at it, dont they break as well in the homes of hamster and guinea pig breeders?! Whats next? Goldfish requiring a permit?! Please:irked:

If he does not agree with the keeping of that particular exotic then it's not so odd.

Personally, I don't object to people keeping any exotic provided the following guidelines are met:

A: Acquiring of that species has little or no detrimental effect on the wild population (captive-bred, etc.)
B: That animal is housed in a humane and safe fashion that meets the particular requirements for proper stimulation and comfort of that animal (Proper enclosure, not free-range in house for some species, steps in place to keep "dangerous" species from causing harm to the public)
C: The potential owner of that animal has full knowledge of and strictly practices the correct care and requirements of that particular species, including and not limited to hands-on experience in a facility or other place that has that particular animal before they keep it privately.

And quite frankly, these are things that should apply to the keeping of ANY animal... I mean seriously, there are just as many abused/neglected/emotionally screwed up DOMESTIC animals as there are exotics out there. If more people followed the idea of keeping animals PROPERLY and doing their RESEARCH before getting them, heck we'd have fewer ridiculous laws prohibiting "harmless" species, and a lot less abused/abandoned animals in the rescues and other facilities.

Savannah cats still require a permit here in PA... He wants to get the real deal, not a hybrid, since he's required to spend two years on getting his permit.
exactly! i still cant believe servals require a permit but they do:screwy:. Plus savannahs are slightly more domestic but its still very wild and quite large. Not gonna pull a permit for a sub par wild cat.

krich, what wiggles posted is exactly correct. Its a very odd and stupid law.

Yeah I should have bought one back when it seemed like every store around here was carrying them..Is there something specific about this particular animal that warrants all this attention from the politicians,I mean we have chinchillas ,ferrets, and a host of other small rodent like creatures and they are all perfectly okay to have?

we already know what typically happens in those situations.... the animal is put down
