You should get a lion they require about the same permits ect and really need about the same enclosure size , the food bill is slightly higher but you could charge your friends money to come visit.
Or if you want something more colorful a tiger is the animal for you.
Take a look on youtube at an organization called "Big cat rescue" they have heaps of cool videos and will give you lots of good ideas on how to keep your african wild cat species of choice.

I just remembered that one of my aunt's friends was trying to get a permit to get a lynx a few years back. I'll have to ask if she ever managed to make it happen, and how she pulled it off.
A lynx or a bobcat would be cool.I remember years ago there was an add in the classifides section in our newspaper for hybrid kits...Looking forward to knowing how your aunt's friend made out.

really? few things
1) lion requires alot more room than a serval, is more dangerous, needs mroe food, more room, more expensive etc. no to the lion
2) big cat rescue supports groups like PETA and are against all ownership of big cats(though they started, so that they could own the largest private big cat breeding group) and if you associate with PETA(an terrorist organization) IMHO your no better than them
