With a 55 as your max you will have to narrow down some of the fish that you plan on adding to the tank. Even the ones that can live life-long in the 55, with too many fish you will run into other problems. Don't just base your stocking on the fact if certain fish have room to turn. Some cichlids have different requirements in territory and zones within the tank. Having fish with differing levels of aggression can be bad too. If a shy or reclusive fish is housed in a tank with more aggressive fish with not much room to flee, you will end up with dead fish. I would stay away from Midas, RD, Trimacs, and a pair of Festae in a 55 too. These fish or pairs of fish get way too big for a 55. There are plenty of other fish that can live life long in a 55 that will give you the interaction that you want. You just have to search through the threads and other sites to learn more about them.

a sen bichir is fine in a 55g and im highly likely to get a bgk
If you can find an SB sen, it will be fine, but a regular sen will get to at least 10 inches, which is a bit large for a 55 gallon.

I feel sorry for that BGK.

I don't know Loves Severums plans for her stock. It could be a growout tank, which I assume it is since one of the fish is a Chocolate. But you shouldn't just take the word of any member. You will learn more by educating yourself by reading books, articles, and by visiting other sites. Then you can compile that knowledge to gain a consensus of dos and dont's. Even then you will learn a lot of things on your own through trial and error. You have posted similar threads about stocking your 55 with generally the same replies by members. If the majority of the members warn you about certain things repeatedly, then it's probably good to at least read up on what they are suggesting before you attempt to go against them. Everyone has limitations on the type and numbers of fish they can keep based on the size of their tank. It can be tricky but you will find something that can live happily for life in your tank and find joy in it yourself at the same time.

Good luck with that one bud. :screwy:

A good alternative to a BGK in a smaller tank is an African brown knife.

I have plenty of time to upgrade. I mean my festaes are 2 inches atm
