Arapaima Pond Build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No more video today... Looks set to be raining for the rest of the day, so free top-up of the pond.
Going for max fill with the overflow adjusted all the way up.
Another 5 cm and it should be done...Might make it before the end of the day.

Great to see the fish doing good, best sign that filtering is done properly.
Will be exciting to see the Koi growing. Biggest one currently is about 6 inches I estimate, the others at 3...
Might drop by the market again this week, just to buy another batch of small Koi.
There's 11 now in the grow-out, quite empty for a tank of 2.5 x 2.5 x 1.2 meters.
Need to get another small airpump anyway with a diffuser disc to get upwards flow and remove settled solids from the bottom.
Couple of Pleco's in there to scrape the algae. Don't know the exact temperature in the pond, need to measure, but I might be daring and put some Discus in the grow-out as well.

And of course, more Lotus in the bog and the ring. They look great with their purple, white and blue flowers.

Never knew that building a pond would be so easy and so much fun.

Cheers,
Luc

It's obvious now that the pump in the second tank has to work harder. Level in the settling-tank gets higher than before with same amount of inflow, meaning that it gets out slower due to bog-resistance.
No problem with that, but might in the future add another pump and a Y-fitting connecting it together with the first pump or put another diffuser in the bog with a separately feeding pump.

Still some way to go to Max-Fill, but another day or two and we'll be there.
After that, daily releases of water and rain-refills should do some extra wonders for water-clarity...
Going to be a nice couple of days for sure...Raining season has its good sides lol.
At least, we're pretty sure for no-floods this year and on top of that, we have a 3m high concrete floodwall all around the estate getting closer to finish. That will hold almost double the height of last year's flood for sure. Not only 3 meters high, but also 4 meters deep, so ground water flows and levels are controllable as well.

Well, there's another 30 small Koi that went in. They are fun to watch in that grow-out. Getting less shy with the group being bigger and they get the hang of feeding as well. Before they where very reluctant to eat, scared and spooked, but now with about 40 in there, they get more daring and easy to come up for food.

Water is beautifully clear. Dream come true really. I expected a drop after the first couple of days with the 2nd bog, but it appears to get even better. Still waiting for a couple of days to make another video. With all the work on it, I'm considering myself a very lucky guy that it went so well.
Mr. T. is doing great. My wife came over this week to see him. Last time was about 3 months ago. She was amazed at how 'fat' he got.
He does not put much length to it, but his body is getting much bigger. Only thing that doesn't change is his begging for food..lol.

Saturday will be bits and pieces to be done. Start with electricity for sure, clean up some spots and maybe some concrete work.

cheers,
Luc

Thanks Inglorious, lots of luck that it all worked in one shot for sure. Been busy with plenty of work at the factory, business going well...so seems Mr. T makes true to the saying of fish bringing luck.
I am getting upset a bit with wind nowadays. Choppy water makes for difficult views...lol. But seriously still can't believe the quality of the water and the zero maintenance. Algea are growing in the bog, but zero in the pond.

See if a video can show improvements coming days.
Off to Vietnam next week for 3 days..

You guys get first served today...lol.
Shot 3 videos, they are showing some good progress really.
Mr. T was very active during the shoot, chasing pellets, moving around, some nice shots of him in it.
Only 1 video first...uploading now, another 15 minutes I guess to finish.
Hope you guys enjoy.
