Arapaima Pond Build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
great story to go along with an awesome build from start to just about finished. I hope to see some more photos and videos of Mr.T's progress in his new home.

Can anybody help to ID this fish?
Thai common fish, fast grower, got them 3 months ago at about 1 inch.
Bottom feeders, come up to the surface and back down again...

Some time ago, busy with work and traveling.
So today came back in the office, checked the pond. Looks fabulous.
Link to video I made...shows the back and sides coming into view now, my target has officially been met.

Some observations:
1. Mr. T. doing great. He's his normal self and has been lucky with quite some prawns this week.
2. For sure the ID on the fish is a Mud-Carp, great cleaner-crew for the pond. The species is more difficult, but at Aquaria-Central I had some help. Ruled out the Microlepis, not enough scales.
3. There's green hair-algea growing wild in the 2 bogs and the grow-out. Pond is pretty much clean. That, to me, proves the Mud-carp and Tilapia are working hard to eat it all. They hang out under the water-falls a lot, my guess is to catch any algae that flow into the main pond.
4. Apple snails...growing very fast and helping on the cleaning job.
5. Need to get more cleaning-crews in the bogs and grow-out to keep them clean.
6. Koi doing great, every time after feeding Mr. T. with pellets, all that ends up in the Settling tank, I scoop out, make a ball of it, throw in the grow-out and they attack it like their first meal in 2 weeks. Koi in the main pond are just happy rushing around with the mud-carps and tilapia.

Cheers,
Luc
