Arapaima Pond Build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks Quovadis, Far2lively, been a while since my last update.
Bogs are doing well, had some small changes to the 1st bog, (left) to make it safe in terms of water-level.
Also managed to fix the left settling tank with epoxy, no more silicone on that one.
Pond is filled up to the max, looks awesome. Got lots of things I still want to do, like rocks/stones around the water-line and 2 concrete walls to connect the front wall to both settling-tanks. Electricity done properly... Mesh-wire nets at the back to hang fast growing climbing plants, including a spray-bar to water them from a distance. Those plants should turn the backside in a green jungle, covering that white wall and the liner.

Mr. T is doing good. Measured him yesterday and to my surprise he makes it to 120cm now...can almost officially call it a 4-footer...
Tilapia become more of an annoyance to me. They breed like crazy and Mr. T. doesn't help much..lol.
All the smaller fish typically follow Mr. T around feeding time in a big school, knowing he can't get them there.
Still in doubt about the Crystal Eyed catfish. My local market shop still has it and I am getting more inclined to put it in.
Just to start feasting on the smaller fish, can always take it out later.
My 2 RTC's are still at home, not growing very fast, but might take them into the growout first to get used.
Then I also have the oscars, 3 in total.

Koi growing and getting more voracious eating. Lots of splashing when they get their pellets.
Right side bog is growing much faster than the Left side. Plants are reaching 2.5-3 meters in there.

All in all, pond is great and one of my customers asked me to start thinking about a design / setup for his new factory.
Should be an Office/Lobby setup that needs to comply with Feng Shui (Chinese owner). Challenging, but look forward to start on that.

Thats all for now...

Cheers,
Luc

Good to hear Mr. T is doing well.

Thanks Pacu Mom... He's fun to watch...a bit of a Doofus if you'd ask me. He's not adjusting his hunting skills to the target fish at all. Keeps trying it in his own way but not much luck at all. Stationary fish, that's what he's good at for sure, but not the fast Tilapia or Mud-Carps & Koi for that matter.

How's your 2 'kids'? Any progress on your tank? Or is the heat keeping you outdoors on the water?

Well, just a quick one, hope to get some input...
I'm starting to lean to the Hemibagrus Wickii as 'pest-control'...
He's still at the fish-shop in the market, got to a good 30cm now and getting more aggressive because he's in a small display tank.

Can get him for THB 500, which would be about USD 16.00

There's so many Tilapia in there that I hope he'll bring it under control, at least stop it from growing further.
If it gets too much, I'd have several options of selling him.
Combined in a later stage with 2 Red Tail Cats, it will be a sight a guess.

Any thoughts? Experience with this sweet baby would be appreciated...

Regards,
Luc

Wow Luc... I havent checked in a while... your videos give the better picture... truly commendable efforts on Mr. T... glad he is thriving :)

Thanks Najib, he's doing great indeed. Pond is holding up very nice.
Did have a problem with a connection from the normal water supply behind the first bog.
I suspect it washed away sand and with not enough support, stones damaged the bog-liner somewhere.
It's nothing much to worry about, loosing about a centimeter of water p/day so will need to look at it some day in the future.
Will likely disconnect it soon for a couple of days to see if the pond stays the same and to identify what level the damage is.
For now, raining season in full gear, topping up daily to the max. So need to wait till december/january to test and check anyway.

Quick question for anybody reading this: Gars and liners? Is that safe? Or would you say: Too risky with liner-punctures....?

Cheers,
Luc

Plants are doing well, I wouldn't risk the gar, thanks for the update.
