Arapaima Pond Build

Stocking question...
My local shop has an interesting Catfish.... Crystal Eyed Catfish or Hemibagrus Wyckii...
Seen mostly "very agressive" "attacks everything" but also some "hand feed" comments.
Now, the fish is about 25cm right now. Given that he'll get to anywhere between 50 - 80cm, I was just wondering if he'd be suitable in the pond with Mr. T.

Got the red-tail cat at home and another 1 in the fish shop, making it 2 RTC's. Might just get a bit too much with the CEC added to the mix.

What you guys think?

Kind regards,
Luc

Thanks Pacu-mom...

He sure seems to like it...Mostly very laid-back guy except for the occasional burst when trying to catch a smaller fish.

Still wondering on his fish-friends... Red Tail Cat at my house and another one on order.
But more and more tempting to keep it as peaceful as possible so as to not get a race-course track in there with fish chasing each other all the time.

Anybody have any suggestions/ideas?

Cheers,
Luc

From reading through the forums, I will forego the CEC. RTC's ok, pretty sure they will get too big at one point, but I'm going to take them in and just see how it goes first.
CEC too aggressive for my liking.

The water is still clearing up, don't have a camera today, but will see for the coming days if I can get another video-shot done.
Top-view in the afternoon, it's as clear as tap-water, so the only way to measure improvements now is under water with the camera filming into the distance. 100% clear for me is when I can see the backside of the pond, 5 meters away. I don't believe I'll be able to get more than that.

Busy week ahead, but Saturday it's show-time for the 2nd bog and the grow-out tank.
Will be busy getting plants, fish and finish on the return to the pond.
With that part done, I'll be ready with systems and only need to work on electricity points, details on the front and surroundings of the liner.
That's all cleanup work basically, will take its own sweet time.

Water stays pretty much the same for now.
Seems no real improvements or degrading. If the water this way, I'm really happy with it. Couldn't wish for more.
But second bog is on it's way so we'll see where that will get us.
Also, I'll need to look into cleanup crews for the bottom to see if that makes additional difference.
Pretty clean as it is, but just to keep up with it, might get more dust and dirt into the drains and subsequent bogs.

Tomorrow Friday...shopping for plants and maybe some fish.
200 Baht gives me a 15" carp, so might just try one. Then there's also the growout to fill as well as the lotus-flower area around the 2nd bog.
Last, many plants of course.

Cheers,
Luc

Bonus to make you guys' Friday a bit shorter.
I put the 2nd bog on-line this morning, test-running it throughout the day.
As I expected, the amount of extra stones captures quite some floating solids and the water is clearing like crazy.

Probably the best videos yet...I really like both of them....

Enjoy...I'm off to 'Talad Thai' or Thai Market, to buy plants for tomorrow finishing the bog.

Not much talking...will let the pictures show the finish for the water-part of things...
We're almost there...electricity and finishing touches is all there is now...

Waiting for rain to fill the pond again.
Used quite some water today to clean the stones, but also had the tap running for half of the day to compensate.
But with the pond to the max, the drop from the 2nd bog to the pond will be much less than what it is now.

Grow-out still needs an air diffuser disk to create upwards flow and lift rubbish from the bottom.
Maybe next week with additional pump.
Also ordering 5 ton of stones again to finish the front of the factory and have some extra here and there.
But at 800 baht per ton or 28 USD paid and delivered, that's hardly anything to worry about.

Next will be some big ceramic planters to put on the gravel to finish the factory's front side.
Figured to put some BigBags over the soil to kill all grass and weed and prevent pretty much anything to grow.

Cheers,
Luc

Love those Monday mornings where you come in and the work of Saturday settled in and looks good.
The second bog is trapping a lot of solids, water is better again. Even without much sun this morning, I made the video straight after coming in.

The Koi are doing good. The ones in the grow-out are all active and schooling together.
The ones that went over to the big pond have caught up with the 1 or 2 Koi that where in there and they are keeping it tight together as a group. Mr. T. mostly leaves it all alone, so reasonable chance to get all of them growing fast.

Tilapia are getting too much and too big, so need to get some serious thoughts on 'pest' control...
Thinking about getting one of the RTC's at home over, though I'm worried on them being the easiest target for Mr. T.
Need to look into the PVC Pipes for hiding places for them.

The guppies have already spawned their first loads of young, so that will rapidly establish itself as a serious cleaning force in the bog and the ring around it.

Anyhow, nice start of the Monday...
Cheers,
Luc

Overall, the result of many Saturdays finally kicks in big time. Absolute joy to look at it and see how well the fish are doing.
