Is that last pic a 20"er?

I thought you said it was around 15 in. when I talked to you about 10-11 months ago.

Any pics of that INSANE tank yet?

Looks like the glowing adipose fades with age? Yeah it does a little but it still retains the orange:)

Yeah thats the 20" beast they don't just keep growing like a weeds they slow down once they reach the 14"mark;) this fish has only been in my care for 2yrs @3" and has grown 17" in 24month the larger specimens I previously brought in were killed by other tank mates:(

To me the bleeding isnt really that obvious as it is kind of subjective and one persons idea of bleeding of color can be different then the next. I know ive said it a million times, just compare the adipose fin with the caudal fin. Also rumble, you seem to be hooked on the gold color of the body being an armatus. My tat was way more gold then my armatus.

Hey JD, I am not really talking about the whole body, just the gill plate.

Now bear in mind I have never seen an Armatus or Tatu in real life, but from images, the Armatus seems to have a really nice metallic looking gold on the gill plate.

I have seen pics of Armatus though JD, where the adipose fin and caudal fin look very similar.

Essentially in a 4 or 5 inch fish, what should I be looking for, mainly the adipose fin?

I guess the reason I'm asking, is if I think it's not an armatus, I won't buy it :D So I want to make sure before I hand over the cash. I am kind of hooked on getting an Armatus, even though Tatus do look very cool too.

Show me a pic of an armatus with a matchin adipose and caudal fin. I have never seen one!

Also concerning the gold on the gill plates of an armatus, look at pics 2 and 4 of my first post in this thread. Gill plates are metallic gold huh? Its no armatus, it was my tat.

Yep, on pic especially they are proper gold.

I think it was coco's Armatus on the other thread in the photo lounge, Rally's thread I think, where to me they looked the same shade etc.

Keep in mind with tats you can have a group of them. Not only that but you can keep other fish with them. A shoal of Tats and Rhaphs is beautiful. If I could only have 1 tank i still think it would have Tats and Rhaphs in it rather than 1 Armatus just cause you can keep other things in there.....most owners of BIG Armatus will tell you there are VERY few fish you can keep with them. The only reason I got one was cause I can toss it in with the rays when it gets big.

A shoal of tats really is an impressive site. As impressive as a large Armatus....maybe not. But if the shoal did end up hitting thier possible 18in size..............:WHOA:

How incompatible are Armatus?

And at what size do they usually start getting aggressive? Do they kill things for fun like a snakehead or jardini?

If I have to keep one alone, or with large dithers, then fine, but I was half planning to keep one with one of the less aggressive species of snakehead or aro.

Just to add, Woody - the guy with the 2 foot armatus has his in a predatory comm. with dats, a tig, rays, and a few other things :D

When I added my armatus who was about 4.5" my 7" tat kicked his ass immediately. I grew the armatus up to 5.5-6" and tried again with no luck. The red-tail continued kicking his ass so he had to go. :(

So far my armatus punked out a silver aro twice his size (possibly causing him to jump and die) and continuosly picks on a silver dollar about 3" in size. He doesnt even seem to notice my 7" Indo and 11.5" NTT.

I believe dats are usually ok. Rays are OK. Some have had luck with bichirs. Most that I know of usually end up in solitary.

Also Woody had a decent sized tank (LOL) if I remember correctly.

Mine's getting moved. Killed it's first tankmate this morning, a Rhaphiodon of the same size. Shanked it numerous times. Has allready shanked a BGK, Tattered the tail on the now RIP Rhaph and the PTC. Gave the clown loach (now moved) a good workover. CONSTANTLY wrestles with the red tails.....Red tails appetite went to zip with him in there. It's eyeballing the referee (7-8in fei feng) i knew it was just a matter of time. but I thought it would be MORE time than this.

How big is it now DB?

And how are Tatus with tankmates in comparison?

I guess they must be somewhat aggressive too from JD7's account of it kicking his Armatus' arse.

Sizes of all tankmates.....

Armatus 6-7in
Tats (2) 6in
Rhaph 9in
PTC 5in
Motoro 5in
BGK 6-7in
Tire trax 18? and 12?
Fei feng 7in
Nandus 4in

Tats have never touched any other tankmates. Now with the addition of the Armatus at about any given moment I can find at least 1 fish in the tank that's beat up. Yes they (Tats) CAN be very aggresive....But for the most part choose not to be. Mine are currently the instigators of all the wrestling that happens amongst the Tats and Armatus.
