Aro tank size?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you want a tank to keep your Arowana in for life, you'd be looking at something around 6 feet long, and around 3 feet wide.

Well that's to small for 2 silvers that's a good size for a rtg

The length is good but whe width is to small
You need 4ft wide

Possibly, though you probably have more experience then me on cramming arowana into fishtanks. If I remember correctly you never could quite get that aro community to work, right? What, you had a half dozen adult asians in a 6 or 7 foot long tank?

I had 9 12 inch Asian aros in a 350 gal which I sold off 1 by 1 as they grew

You have 4 what size SA aros in what size tank now ?

In my 350 gal the water looked spotless and crystal clear the vid of you 4 aro com doesn't look that great

My Asian aro com was going into a 8x6 at some point the aros I had would max out in size of 2 foot yours will max out at 3rd + in a 8x3

I had a change in direction and yeas your right decided to sell all mine and stuck with 1 aro

You are moving your 2 silvers to a 8x3 which is still to small so what's the point in upgrading

Asian aros need to be packed in to make it work which you would know after keeping so many Asian aros

I have very little experience keeping aros and no experience of keeping specimens that are 24"+. My opinion on this matter goes back to the fact that no one on here (unless you own a zoo or a pond) can keep them in a tank that is anywhere close to their natural enviornment. That being said, I feel that the tank should be as wide as the aro is long and about 3x's the aros length. So an 8x3 footprint should last a very long time.

WHile were somewhat on the topic, how many members actually have 36"+ aros?

I don't "yet".

Rather than taking this thread somewhere else, if you're interested in finding out how many members have 36"+ aros, start another thread on that topic. :)

It's relevant to thread. If no one has a 36-40" aro in captivity (in a tank), maybe there is something going on during their early stages of growth, no matter what tank condition they are kept in. Finding out how large an aro does get in captivity is totally different from what people say they should get. Who here has studied growth rates of wild vs captive specimens? Finding out some of this info would eliminate some useless info and give a more valid tank size.

The final aro tank size for me (the mothership) will probably be 8x3x30", maybe a 8x4x30" but this means less office space and more $. Those 10' tanks are not realistic in my house.

No flaming from me. An 8x4 footprint seems fine considering the world record aro was like 47"?

So you want to wait for people to happen across this thread in order for them to chime in on how big their aros are before proper advice can be given?

I disagree. Hence, go start a thread if you want to know.
