2-3 pounds of salt? that isnt to much for freshwater? so how big of a water change should i do? and should i clean my filters to? i have a pleco that is about 9-10" long and just the aro that is about 16"

any ammonia is bad! It means you have a problem somewhere in your filtration( or not enough) do a water change and get you ammonia in order. Also your nitrate is high. I try to keep mine around 10ppm which is considered low but the lower the better. Arowana's aren't overly hard to keep but they will be one of the first to act strange when something isn't right. I wouldn't crank your temp up if it's above 75f because warmer water holds less O2. It is sounding like you may be fighting a fungal infection but it's hard to tell without pics. You can add salt but do it gradually. start with a tablespoon for every 5 gallons and give it time to work

About Ammonia, look on this thread: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=390261

Lots of people have problem with Ammonia in places where is cold. 0.25 is not that bed, but if your Arowana is not eating everything can be a problem. With your PH level Ammonia in your tank is not toxic. In my opinion your Nitrate is more important. I know that if my fish do not eat I have problem with NO3 - well, I had because now I have automatic water exchange and high level of nitrate where gone.

If you have something wrong with water, changing it can only expand the problem. In this situation you can add Prime to lower the Chloramine, Ammonia and Nitrate... and keep doing testing. If you have Ro/Di system that will be good to change water using water from Ro/Di.

Never clean the filters the same day you do water changes. Not exactly sure how dirty your filters are, but I would probably do the largest practical water change you can manage, maybe like a 60-75% change. Then gradually add in 2-3 pounds of salt in 2-3 days. Forgot to mention previously, this is NOT the salt you add to make saltwater. Either use aquarium salt, water softner salt, or kosher salt. Do NOT use table salt. Most cost effective choice is water softner salt but you must make sure it says no additives.

Put salt to for the "mold". Do you have fairly soft water for ur properly heated tank. Please note that arowana are extremely sensitive fish espesially when you recently just get one.

my water temp was 78*f and after reading on the fourms i moved it to 82*f for the aro. is a xp2 and xp3 enought for a 120g tank? i added to hand fulls of aquarium salt to the tank about 4hrs ago. so should i do a water change or not? i always add api stress coat+ when i do water changes. is that good or bad? ive never had a problem in the past and ive had this aro for almost two years now. but i did move him two this bigger tank about a month ago.

I'll have to respectfully disagree with Gshock: Table salt works without any problems as long as there isn't any yellow prussiate of soda in it.

I have used uniodized Norton table salt without any problems.

Whoops, I always thought table salt was iodized. Never knew it came uniodized. Basically, as long as there are no additives, its safe to use.
