aro wont eat and stays in one spot

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Btw, what kinda lightning u have for ur tank, how big of watts?
It might be the problem of ur aro having strange scales/mold, due to reaction of light and the chemical in the water

rena filstar xp2 and a xp3 in a 120 gallon tank

How much bio media do you have in your filters and what type ?

To have any ammonia on a systems filtration that hasn't been cleaned for 6 months is typical something is wrong with your bio filtration.

i just cleaned the xp3 about 2 weeks ago. the only thing i replaced was the micro-filter pad. but i think i made the misstake of rising the other stuff in water and not tank water. stupied me!!
both filters have the 20-30 ppi mechanical filtration foam that are in the bottom tray then on the first half of the second tray in the xp3 i have the bio-chem stars. then on the upper half of the 2nd tray in the xp3 i have the ceramic rings. i also have the i ceramic rings in the xp2. then also in the top of both i have activated carbon and on top of that i have a micro-filtration pad. is that good? should i change anything? im kinda new to the canster filters so i was only following what the instructions told me. any input would be much appreciated.

as far as lights i have 2 24" zoo med reef sun f17tb 50/50. thats all i could find that was printed on the lights. they came with the tank when i bought it.

so i have already put in one pound of salt over the last day and a half. so should i add one more pound and turn up the temp?

The problem is prolly ur light..if its for reef, means for salt water and maybe too intense for ur arowana, if I were u I would change the light to aqua-glo for instance as they're pretty cheap.
And also I don't think it its has to do with ur filter, u could change whatever media u wish for as long as u don't replace it all at the same time. Do one media at a time/ alternate it
if its washable I would wash it only with the water from ur tank when u do the WC.
Some might diasagree with me because I'm know for my noobness in keeping an aro LOL..
Just do whatever make senses to u and use ur best judgment :)

As for salt I would be carefull on adding it too much aka overdose it unless u have a way to measure the salt concentration in ur tank..I'm treating my tank with salt and 88F heat..its been almost. Week I add salt only when do WC.

i still have my old bulbs so iil put those ones in. the only media i replace is the micro one since it gets clogged. so should i do a water change to lower my nitrate?

Yes I would do WC, ur nitrate is way too high..
If I were u I would replace that reef-sun light..out intensity is way too much for aro
WC about 25% 3 times a week untill nitrate down, u could slack once its constant normal..like 5-10ppm
Treat the tank with aquarium salt, kitchen salt works too but I noticed the aro responds better with aquarium salt and they r cheaper than kitchen salt while bumping ur temp to 88F(the number I keep when medicating), how I come up with that number? I grew up at the earth equator LOL
Do not treat it too long..I would say 2 weeks most and do not over dose with salt, we keep FW for crying outloud LOL

ok should i do a 50%? also would a air stone help for the time being? i dont really like them but if it will help put oxyigen in the water until i get everthing right again i will. or will i be fine without one?

I posted without seeing Your last one. So ill do the 25% wc 3 times a week.
For the salt should I just follow the instructions on the box?

yes follow the instruction on the box i chosed my salt aquarium salt made by API, air stone would be help full too on aeration and force more oxygen to the buttom of water
