I'm new to keeping large fish and i was wondering if a pond of approximately 8.5ft by 6ft would be suitable for a silver arowana

Sounds like a great size to me.

Problem with pond though is arowana can jump really well. Make sure he can't escape...

I'd be more worried about the temperature, since you don't mention where you are. Here an arowana would freeze to death in a pond...

He's in he Bahamas. So, if anything, make sure the pond isn't situated where it may overheat.
