It's funny that the value of the Asian Arowana has led to it's endangerment? Or are you saying that the Asian Arowana is not endangered?
Neither! :grinno: Asian arowan is endangered, and like one of many endangered species, it's not only because of the value, but it's also because of they are massively caught as food source from local people and their habitat is destroyed. Honestly, the fish hobby or any hobby has a very small contribution to the endangerment of any species

They aren't massively caught anymore. Their value and the perception that the arowana brings luck and prosperity to it's owner will continue to endanger the fish and keep it illegal.

The lack of wild caught photos shows just how much the population has been decimated. Apparently the color is apprciable enough to endanger the species.
you can say what ever you want to spin it i your favor.

bam.... wild orangutan very endangered, found a bunch of pictures on my search so then they must not be endangered. ill inform the scientific community tommorrow;)
it more then likely just means no body has cared to take a picture of them in the wild and post it on the internet.
2 years ago, i acquired a royal pencil wrasse, only a single picture existed on the internet then, now there are more but i would say its a wealth of them. it isnt endangered just uncommon on the internet

they are endangered but you couldnt call a google search proof of that lol

IMO, the lack of wild caught photos doesn't represent the population, just like it kind of hard to find a picture of someone selling drug, or doing drug. In addition, the endanger of the species doesn't represent that they are appreciated. On the contrary, due to the lack of appreciation, habitat is destroyed, or they're massively caught mainly for food source from local people is one of the reasons that put the species in endanger status.

It isn't hard to find pictures of people doing drugs. The fact that the fish is over-utilized, no matter whether it's eaten or used for aquaria will keep this species illegal for trade.

Only "city" people have that knowledge. Local people only worry about if they can put food on the table at the end of the day. That the luck and prosperity they're looking on the daily basis.

There is much more luck and prosperity selling it alive than eating it. The manner in which it ends up dead is much less important than the fact that it's dead and the point of the thread is the legality of the fish for trade. That won't change.

i dont think you gonna find any photo of a poached animal for sale that lists it as so. its more of a word of mouth business.

If you do see them for sale, the endangerment of the animal continues. If you don't see them for sale yet they are still exploited to the point of endangerment, then the exploitation of the animal has reached a point where the species is critically endangered.
