you would think that, but on tv you see hawaiian tribes spearing 200 dollar tangs for dinner.

A $200 tang isn't worth $200 to the collector.

thats true i think you could still make 30 dollars per fish if you get a bunch. that worth enough to get something better then a single meal of some crappy fish. a nice steak, baked potato side. cheesecake as desert. oh and a forgot the appitizer awesome blossom.

it would be worth it

That's if you could keep it alive and healthy long enough to sell it to someone that could put it in the aquaria trade

And find a different method of collecting, spear fishing kinda hard on the fish.

i think you could what do you need a box, special breathable bags. handwarmers for winter.
obviously you would find the buyer before hand. then you get your food:popcorn: and supplies on the boat ride back from the mainland.

There is much more luck and prosperity selling it alive than eating it. The manner in which it ends up dead is much less important than the fact that it's dead and the point of the thread is the legality of the fish for trade. That won't change.

Prohibit the trade of the species is just a way to discourage people from harvesting them. That's one of the reasons why Asian aro is produced in captivity, yet, it's still prohitbited in the States. They may be caught and selling it alive when the "city" people was there to buy. It's not like the "city" people camping there every day to buy them. On other day, they're nothing but food. It's not like the local people setup tank or holding area to keep those fish until they're sold. :grinno:

thats true, they always seemed alot less energetic afterwards:grinno:

The problem with their "endangered" status is that it only looks at wild populations. They might be endangered in habitat, but there is no way they'll ever become extinct because of the extensive captive breeding for the hobby. I dare say habitat destruction has every bit as much to do with them being endangered [in habitat] as collection for the hobby, and I will believe that until I see hard proof otherwise.

The stupid thing is that if they had never been banned in the US there would be a much bigger market for them, and more money in breeding them meaning more jobs for local people who might otherwise be fishing them out of the rivers. I still don't see why they can't be imorted into the US under strict conditions where every fish is scanned and checked for a microchip, and only fish from authorised farms are allowed in. I mean the whole point of the microchipping thing is to satisfy CITES and allow the fish to be traded internationally, who does America think they're fooling by saying that isn't good enough.....

thats why you gotta ***** until they do care.

wait 5 years thats hardly a proof, there maybe a day that nonnative species are removed from ESA and are left to cites or another organization.

i hate people like you that just give up on are political process. following your road is only gonna make things worse and create guerilla organizations against the govt, like so many other countries with corrupt gov't have. i bet you dont know your congressmans name.
easy there captain america. keep trying, lemme know how it works out for you. if you had a shred of common sense, youd waste your time on something more valuable. trying to legalize a fish is gonna get you nowhere. you cute little letters are going straight into the trash. stop dreaming and wake up

EDIT: and for whats its worth, ill put my efforts towards something that has more meaning to me. its not worth my time to write a stupid letter for a fish. if i really wanted one, i just gotta make a few phone calls and be willing to spend the cash.

NOW, try and take my guns away and see what happens. i pick my battles
