omg like ive said several times before im getting a 100 gallon this spring!!!!!!the 40 is a grow out!

they are a very powerful river fish dude i live in iowa and they will bust ur tank after they get so big because of the fact that they are so bulky. i know a good place to catch juvie bullheads on a hook at about 3" here in central iowa by vinton(im in cedar rapids) but still just be careful im not shameing you but just giving a little heads up

wow didnt know they could do that ty for that i live in hte sw corner of iowa ur to far away lol o and nice name

Thats because almost all of gar man's threads are deleted by mods. However i personally dont believe that bullheads in gar man's area reached only 6 inch long, which its not genetically but more likely its enviroment. Once you give these bullhead properly husbandy, they will reach monster sized. All bullheads species and stonecat will reach more than a foot long, there are no such as dwarf bullheads in nature. And 40gal are terrible growout tank for bullheads, they grew up so quickly than other fishes which thats why channel catfish are commerical bred because of their fast growth rates, so are all bullheads which has this trait. 100gal are great growout tank for baby bullheads. I once caught two one inch long yellow bullhead a months ago and now they are 6 inch long and they are in 10gal tank!!! I gave the bullheads to good home. 100gal are not enough big for fullgrown bullhead (yellow, brown and black) so 125gal are permament home for these common species and NO TANKMATES!

It's quite unlikey Gar man has access to any of these. I think they are the best looking of any of the bullheads. Probably teh best suited to aquarium life.

Yeah the uncommon bullhead species can still grow big if given properly conditions in aquarium life.

That is a curious stance to take, why would you expect or want a fish to grow past it's natural limits? I have long been against the idea of growing a fish with the intent of breaking some sort of record. I would like to think that a long healthy life is more important.

you have only three bullhead species in Iowa and they are: yellow, brown and black bullheads. No snail, spotted and flat bullheads are found in Iowa nor they are stocked in, all species get big.
